I unironicaly prefered it over other NuCom clones just because it didn't have the shitty action points system. Could it have been better? Yes, definetly. But the combination of unique mechanics and the real time aspect made it really fun. Just a shame we'll never get an expansion.
>>2369286idk what this game even isaliens xcom? could be kino
>>2369286Great game. Was fun channeling my sentry gun placement autism.
>>2369286Devs are so weird. They clearly have some talent and ideas, but their games are quickly abandoned and often left in buggy state. Looks like they are getting fucked over by IP owners and IP restrictions. Especially this Aliens game. This setting is too small and basic. Not even adding Genestealer Cults helped with variety.Their Battlefleet Gothic Games were nice too. They should take ground battles from this and space battles from BFGA and make some sandboxy real time space mercenary game in their own dark sci-fi. Real Time Menace of sorts. Instead they are helping some other dev make some random dead on arrival moba tower defence game
>>2369286i agree this game was fun. If it were multiplayer shit would be chaotically fun.
Shill me this game, it looks like it plays like a twin stick shooter but also an RTS? What popular games does it resemble?
>>2375419it's a stealth-focused realtime with pause tactics game where you're leading a squad against much stronger foes that you generally can't tackle head-on. does a good job of approximating the anyone-could-die-at-any-time vibe of the movies. it's a bit niche due to the difficulty level and stressful vibe. it's not really like xcom games because of the realtime stealth component and the fact that your troops don't turn into all-conquering superheroes in the mid-late game.
>>2375419Base is like x-com>a room to lvl up grunts to unlock classes and bonuses like +1hp>a room to spend item points to unlock better gear (like a smartgun which does the exact same thing assault rifle does, but has more ammo)>a lab to spend science points to unlock special gear, that gives special bonuses like +1hp>a room where you occasionally have to leave your guys when they get sad and/or injured-a command deck where you pick your mission Action game is a weird hybrid of rts (if only you got one unit at all times) and commandos like (move around the map doing tasks, while avoiding detection by roaming patrols). You click a place and your guys walk there, automatically shooting nearest aliens. You can order them to manually reload weapons or use special attack (shotgun, grenade, suppressive fire) but those cost mana (which regenerates over time + kills)You pick up loot (tools, medkits, ammo) which you use through the mission or you can bring it back to base to use later (because all supplies except ammo are very limited)If an alien spots you it triggers an alert, which causes every enemy on the map to rush your position, stresses your dudes and makes alien spawn rate tick upwards. Alert eventually calms down if you stay out of sight or weld the door behind you. If your guys get stressed, they get negative modifiers which make fight harder, but you can give them meds or lock them in a room with no way out to calm them down. You have an invincible APC that you can order to drive around the map (but you often have to go in and unlock the door first) which shoots aliens (and does not cause an alarm). You can abort the mission at any time by simply approaching the APC, and come back later with a fresh squad.
>>2369286Real great game, got really mad when it ate my save at launch after 15 hours...i'm thinking of giving it another try now. That said, i don't think its similar to XCOM, its more than anything a solid af extraction game.
>>2370125It's a RTT game. Not really like X-COM because it's not turn based. That being said, I still enjoyed it even if it's pretty difficult at normal and hard settings.
>>2369286idk this games reminds me of space hulk maybe a timer system would be cool
Aliens: Dark Descend and Terminator: Dark Fate: Defiance are such fucking great licensed games.I was expecting nothing and got kino
i had a lot of fun in the initial map against bugs but then the second map against humans who had ranged attacks just screwed me over
>>2375456>>2375458Thank you fellas, sounds pretty good, will try it for sure. Mandaloregaming seemed positive about it so thats a plus
>>2375874i bounced off after the mine area of the first map. i beat it but just didn't have the desire to continue after that. wish the stealth system was more robust. exploring the town where you had systems like cover and welding doors and more paths and space was great, i loved it. but in the tunnels none of that applied, you had places where you couldn't help but be detected, then if you were detected you had no doors to weld and no rooms to hole up in so you basically had to tank whatever comes at you.i watched a let's play of that level to confirm i wasn't doing anything wrong and yeah the guy seemed to just trigger the xenos and run towards a chokepoint he knew about (in most of the tunnels you either had xenos coming from 2 directions or the dead end tunnels weren't long enough for a proper firing arc) and wait for it to blow over, and did the same thing with the boss.with that in mind, i should replay it, the parts i did like i liked a lot. the game made it seem like getting detected was a huge fuckup with lots of consequences like stress and panic and that xenos would overwhelm you, but i guess it's an unavoidable part of the gameplay that you should just plan ahead for. in my playthrough it did seem like it was endless xenos coming at me if i got detected but it seems you hit a point where they just stop coming.
>>2375937Don’t give up on it bro. The game is janky in that it gets better as it goes on, like they developed it linearly and didn’t bother or ran out of money to go back and tweak the earlier areas as they started to iterate and eventually master the design. When you get detected you don’t get endless waves. You get a hunt that lasts for a minute or two, but eventually dies down. These are the tactical battles where you have to use your sentries and your command abilities to fight back. As the mission goes on your capabilities deteriorate as your marines accumulate stress and supplies dwindle, meanwhile the alien foe increases its aggression; more drones roaming the map, longer and more aggressive hunts. You’ll eventually get full-on onslaughts as well as “boss” tier xenos. You will need to abort the mission sometimes as further progress with a squad that is low on ammo, out of Medkits and tools, and stressed out of their minds, freaking out and missing shots. You can resume the mission the next day, but you’ll have to deal with wounded and tired marines, as well as a doom clock that will eventually start up about a third of the way into the game.It really is pretty fucking awesome, way better and more intense than Xcom, and I was a huge fan of OG Xcom from the 1990s. Don’t give up on it.
>>2369286I refunded this because of the shitty save system that doesn't resepct the player's time
>>2369286Yeah, it is fun and love the atmosphere, I did find it pretty hard at certain points.
>>2375864>Starship Troopers: Terran Command>Aliens: Dark Descent>Terminator: Dark Fate: DefianceWhats with all this 80's and 90's movie tie in strategy game being so good? They have no right to be this good when all the usual cash-ins wind up being subpar.
Stress is a real killer in this game. Sergeants have the ability to temporarily stop stress increases for the squad, so spam that ability. Also, you will eventually get a larger APC (about halfway through the game) that allows you deploy a 5th squad member.
>>2369286It's a great game, but has exactly 0 replayability, its a one and done. It's not a bad thing per se, but I liked it enough to want a bit more
>fireteam eliteNice squad based game that end with cliffhanger . It had dlc but really could use more. Ended support due to license expiration.Dark descent: ends with cliffhanger, discontinued due to license expiration. Now there's new aliens franchise game but I won't buy any aliens related games as they almost always ends with cliffhanger and gets discontinued due to licensing issues./tg/ related: it's kinda cool as dark descent plays like somekind of PC adaptation of aliens another glorious day in a corps.
>>2379478Alien:Isolation also ended on a cliffhanger
>>2378270Theres a really solid Avatar game from the early10s...its not a stg gaem thouI wish Aliens would have get at least a couple of DLCs, TDFD is still getting stuff.
>>2380616the mad max game was really good too
>>2378270I heard good things about Robocop apparently too
>>2380690Awesome little game, i think it got killed by another big similar game that nobody remembers now.A:Dark Descent is so fucking good, every mission but the defense ones are a solid 2 hour, its not nearly enough, this game needed some kind of Conquest/Long War type of mode.
>>2381279Its really fucking solid and the DLC is apparently pretty good too.
>>2379478I was honestly kinda hoping that some of the Fireteam Elite classes appeared in Dark Descent as classes but I don't know if it'll work lorewise since I think some anon said that Fireteam Elite takes place some decades after Dark Descent or before and that the crew of Dark Descent were stuck in cryo so there wouldn't be time for them to learn that the rest of the marines learned how to make toys against the xenos (and I haven't even mentioned how some anons say that Dark Descent doesn't isn't canon to Fireteam Elite or vice versa), or even the mercs as some classes.Hell, I'd take a Wey-Yu campaign where you're trying to rally defenses against the alien threat up until it stops because of the events of the main campaign.
>>2369286>real time is not turn basedwoahhhh
>tfw Terminator Dark Fate Defiance is getting a new DLC in the following months>tfw nothing for Aliens Dark DescentTerminbros are eating good...
