Aztec atlat skirms are very fucking nasty and will kill soft counters in enough numbers, you still need monks and some sort of frontline, preferably low on gold like champs or jags.
Sadfy I'm not really a Monk rush kind of guy, I only use them in imperial (mostly due Theocracy, cannot be arsed to individually micro 6 or more monks at the same time)

Funny enough, Muisca monks and UU has a similar vibe to this, except Muisca UU lacks the range of aztec Atlat skirms, but make that up by having a very nasty punch

Best part about mass monks is you don't even need to be a micro god for them to work. When an enemy sees a group of monks and hears even just a few conversions starting they usually freak the fuck out on instinct and refuse to engage (or do so very poorly). Monks are as much a deterrence as they are a real threat.

As for actual monk micro tips, I usually keep them all in one control group. When an enemy group approaches I first task them all on one unit, then ctrl-click one or more of the monk portraits to drop them out of the selection and click another target. With <10 monks you can easily get them each converting a different target in just a few seconds. With huge monk masses I just do a lot of small box selections or something. You also only need to convert half of the enemy group for it to be a decisively victorious battle, so perfect micro isn't even super important.
