Discussing this game outside of this thread is impossible. So many people are like "oooh there's not enough story" and "I want a conclusion where you save the day with love and friendship, just like muh anime sims".Nobody can appreciate a grungy space simulator where shit sucks and you just have to make do. Why does everything need a squeaky clean ending? Yes I want a conclusion to the story, but it better not be some gay disney ending.
>>2379834Its shit as a personal flagship (not fast enough). Its something you leave for the AI and that build doesnt work good for it. Its one hell of a kiter though.
>>2379859You can push it but yeah, needs compromises to do it. I just fucking like flying it anon. Great weapon profile and it's not like you need too much to beat vanilla fits. Plus it's getting +10 base speed if I'm not mistaken so that's cool.
>>2379796Yeah, conq is supposed to be the "relatively fast ship with lots of ballistics" but as much as a personally like it, it's just shit. It's OP starved, guns point in different directions so the "meta" is to build just one side anyway and that triggers my autism. Dies to everything because it has neither armour nor shields and the fast is a lie because half the capitals are just plain faster and/or have a better movement system. The only thing it has is the higher baseline flux stats which lets you dakka but which is probably why it gets that unusually bad shield efficiency as a balancing factor, but you are still really coming up behind on defensive capability. It's fun if you manage to find yourself in the middle of garbage and go "I'm not surrounded I can attack in any direction" but frankly you could do that with any other ship at this point.Conq really is just roster filler for NPCs to use like other anon said.
>>2379857I wish it sucked more. In vanilla it's easy to get a colony and infinite money. And then what? Optimize a fleet to take out an enemy that you have to find, for weapons you don't need to use.
>>2379871This. It's incredibly fun building a small little outpost for my people, but then I end up becoming too strong.

>>2379561NTA but I personally just don't want one singular faction consistently taking over the entire sector in Nexerelin when I spend more than three attoseconds outside of the core worlds. Hegemony already does this with pure vanilla factions and it sucks there too.
>>2380721The idea behind nexerelin is perfect. The issue is twofold. One is that the vanilla factions are severely imbalanced. The game starts off with the hegemony having already snowballed. The other one is the fact that, in Warband, you have internal faction structures. Lords defect, switch factions, take fiefs and armies with them. It curbs snowballing to at least some degree because even if one faction stomps others, it can fail internally. Starsector doesn't have that. Speaking of warband, anyone tried this one?https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=34114.0Ive been giving it the sideye mainly because of it being tooich "dude what if I make it LITERALLY warband" instead of just taking and choosing mechanics that fit. Feasts and having to go to your fiefs to collect your income in a setting like starsector sounds utterly fucking retarded.
>>2380740tbqh part of the problem is that Starsector, while it is static in terms of actual base game mechanics, doesn't really seem to be meant to be all that static long term. The Hegemony probably will take over the sector in the near future.- tri-tachyon blew their load in the AI war- persean league is basically a loose kazeronian empire and one of the main gens wants to rejoin the hegemony anyways- sindria's great leader is dead- and the Hegemony itself, aside from superior industrial base and numbers (most of the sector's population lives in Chicomoztoc) currently has an effective leader, DaudThe near future probably involves the Hegemony reannexing Sindria and Kazeron joining the Hegemony under favourable terms (with the Gens enjoying a status similar to the Eventide aristocracy, albeit even wealthier due to their industrial base, and probably quickly becoming the real power inside the Hegemony), and at that point nothing else can stop them, besides John Starsector. This will never be played out ingame, but that's basically what the current status quo points towards. So Nex having the Hegemony stomp isn't unrealistic.
>>2380740>The game starts off with the hegemony having already snowballed. You can (mostly) fix this with randomized sectors with faction weights turned off, putting every faction on an even playing field when it comes to colonies. I say mostly fix because due to the political alignment statistics Nex comes with, some factions are just naturally more aggressive than others. Even with everyone having the same amount of colonies, Hegemony and Persean League will be calling for invasions way more often than the Church or Tri-Tach. This is also why specific mod factions (i.e. Legio) completely engulf everything within a few months.
>>2380743You're approaching this entirely from a lore/worldbuilding PoV while ignoring the fact that this seriously hampers the gameplay structure. In the end, for video games, writing serves gameplay, especially sandbox titles. This rule goes double so for game with writing as utterly schlocky as Starsector, and where,if you look at the history of the project, it's clearly been an afterthought and only now has become a vessel for some failed hack writer to LARP his writing career. The game does not benefit in any way from having a shitty spy extraction storyline of some literally fucking who for which the gameplay boils down to nothing more than flying between planets to spend hours reading bargain bin genre fiction.
>>2380749>need Some Guy from Planet>consider your military options>tacbomb the defense batterys>marine raid to extract VIP (only needs 2 marines lol)>send the rest of the lads for supply and fuel to make the op pay for itself>spend a storypoint to execute so you don't piss off the league too much>execute>there's a cool text blurb as your marines grab the guy (and the loot)>quest complete!WHY WON'T THE GAME LET ME DO THIS IT WORKS LIKE THIS FOR EVERYONE ELSE
The Legion desperately needs a buffIt's main use are the fighters which are unbearably dogshit in 0.98 and even if they were good...It still is mediocre carrier and shit capital that doesn't have the staying power to fight on the front-line and doesn't have the speed to disengage Either it needs to become a better carrier and get 1 more hangar with something like a built-in expanded deck crew, or it needs it's flux and shield buffed so it can actually stay and fight.Legion XIV is also mega-ass. The way i would see it is I would give it the highest flux stats of all low-tech and give it a good shield to make it the "we have high tech at home" of low-tech which could synergise with Onslaughts by absorbing hits with their shield to take the pressure off them when they overflux or get their armor stripped. Then the XIV Legion would synergise even better as it could dedicate it's flux to being a tanky bitch and use various large slots support missiles to support Onslaughts along with their fighters.
>>2380811>click on planet to set course>spend 5 minutes watching your ship go in straight line>arrive for inane text blurb>click on another planet to set course>spend another 5 minutes watching your ship go in straight line>arrive for another inane wall of text >rinse and repeat 5 or 6 times>QUEST COMPLETE THANKS FOR READING MY NOVELProper game design involves thinking up gameplay systems and once those are established, you make up some neat narrative to contextualise it. The Luddic questline, and current development philosophy of Starsector in general is "I have a writing uiea. I want to tell a story. Now, how do I shoehorn this into the framework of the game". It's pure trash and the fact that you jumped into this conversation about gameplay thinking purely of the narrative/worldbuilding implications is quite telling. No wonder you defend this kind of 0 gameplay narrative bloat.
>>2380743You are forgetting that the Hegemony is generally held back by the significant infiltration of it's administration and population by Luddic retards. The game implies at many points that the Hegemony is less stable internally than things would seem and while the military is holding things tight, it's unknown how well the state would fare when there is no longer an external enemy to justify the military's stranglehold over the government. The AI wars weren't really such a slam-dunk for the Hegemony as you imply and while they did come out in a batter position than Tri-Tach each time, it was only by a small margin. Tri-Tach had the Hegemony dead to rights in the 2nd war, until it had a leadership swap which is also implied to have been a calculated play by Artemisia to discredit her main political opponents at the cost of losing the war.Annexation of Sindria is also far less straightforward than you assume, the Diktat still has a very large(if poorly maintained) fleet with a large part of the officer corps not intending to ever be a part of the Hegemony. Not to mention NO ONE wants the Hegemony to have a stranglehold on the sector's fuel supply so any move by the still battered and exhausted Hegemony is likely to end in a everyone vs Daud scenario. We know the League is always happy to take on new members, especially those with a competent military, Tri-Tach arleady has some fingers in the pie to and it's likely they would get involved as well.
the entire sector design layer sucks, too involved for being just a setting-up-fights mechanic and too limited to actually contain anything interesting
Link to previous thread, OP?

>>2380743The Hegemony is actually beyond fucked though. It's not really represented in-game too much but they are practically at the end of their ropes, they don't even have the capability of fighting a war against the player faction for rampant AI usage, with the league even fielding a significantly larger fleet. TT is also in a way better position, the second war which they almost won was intentionally sandbagged for internal stability. Which means any losses from losing that war was deemed as negligable, on top of that TT were the ones who created the Ziggurat and had remnant ships guarding omega weapons in their black site system. So they've got a ton of shit potentially going on behind the scenes. Only TT knows why they are content to just sit there pretending to be weak.
>>2380873>war against the player faction for rampant AI usage, with the league even fielding a significantly larger fleetThe inspections scale ingame. The 3rd and last one generated the most fleet points out of all the other crisis. Not that it really matters, since the jew has written himself into a corner.
>>2380875I've only fought the third inspection fleet a few times because of how long it takes to send so maybe my memory of it is fuzzy but it seemed like it was way smaller than taking the grand armada on head on with all of its allies.

>>2380873The Status Quo is probably more beneficial to Tr-Tach at this time. As long as they maintain a layer of plausible deniability they can essentially do what they want and the Hegemony does not have the resources to control, stop and enforce any bans they have "in place". It is implied most of the AI "inspections" and "control" are closer to propaganda ops for internal consumption rather than actual enforcement. The sector being split into many factions also allows them to ensure they have competitive markets to sell their products to(they are a corporation after all) without anyone being able to effectively compete in the R&D department as there isn't enough funding to go around with all the military buildup and dick-waving eating the budget. Tri-Tach could even strategically sell some technology to specific states to ensure power parity is maintained, which is what they might by trying to do by helping out the Sindrians with tech developments. Of course whether or not this is working is questionable as the Gigacannon is genuine ass. All of the above also neatly absolves Tri-Tach of the expense and hassle of having to govern the sector themselves. >TLDRTri Tach has arleady essentially won everywhere but the battlefield and it doesn't have much to gain by winning there too even though they probably could.

Ive decided to abandon midline/AI controlled shenanigans and just return to monke and play with lowtech vs remnant. 3 legion XIV with wasps needlers/ACs/light MGs and hammer barrage plus heavy shield/armor tank, 2 moras with warthogs, 5 condors (2 with warthogs and 3 with broadsword+longbow) plus 4 monitors. Not that heavy on upkeep and works great! I thought moras were shit (only used herons before) but the fuckers always stay alive with heavy armor+reinforced bulkheads. Fleet doesnt kill fast as missile spam but has the endurance to fuck several ordos.
>>2381904I groan every time I have to fight a Mora, especially one with an officer because they always, without fail, have Systems Expertise and take 50 years just to punch through their armor.
>>2381905I seriously thought those things were much weaker because of the shit shields. Like it was some oversized vanguard in terms of tank. It has higher endurance than I thought and it can do frontline escort just fine. It just needs that extra hull and armor from the hullmods.

>>2381907>>2381905moras are great with support, they only need something to stop enemy reapers since those still do enough damage to strip armor with the dampener field activethere is nothing you can do against rift weapons corrupting your armor though.

Would be cool to have ship highjacking as a form of making money. 0 d-mod ship hulls actually sell for a decent price in the base game. Having a means to disable ships mid-battle that is more difficult and dangerous than simply destroying them so you can then salvage them with 0 d-mods post-battle would certainly be a more engaging way of pre-colony moneymaking than the stale drug running.

Been working on my own faction for a while. I realy don't care much about the lore or anything, infact the backstory is just filler essentially. A bunch of AI cores went rogue, watched too many movies about Skynet and the matrix, and decided to become evil. The real focus was on the gimmick of the mod, which is to have multiple super capitals designed to do one thing REALLY well. Like for example:>one is a constantly rotating saucer that's the ultimate carrier. It has 50 carrier slots and a 90% reduction in OP for fighters assembled by the faction. It also has an infinite amount of deployment time, and cannot suffer from extended deployment penalties. However, the drawback is that it has zero actual defensive measures, only 4-8 small slots for minor protectionIs it a gimmick you'd play my mod for? wanted to make it buckbreaker/rapesector compatible, but how do you "rape" a robot? Idk
>>2381546i think ITU is fine on a support frigate with a long ranged support weapon
>>2382485>in about twenty years most people here won't even know who they were
>>2382499how granular are the concepts? Like is there one super low tech, one super high tech, or is it based on role?
Thoughts on deflector shields?
>>2382499>Is it a gimmick you'd play my mod for?noYou should probably look how the Axial Rotation hullmod from vanilla does it if you want to do that "constantly rotating saucer" thing though, it's what the stations use to spin.I think there was an ancient mod that added flying saucers like that, Tomson Heirloom or something similar.
>>2382499>A bunch of AI cores went roguedropped
>>2382522They're more about roles. It would work in the IBB system where you can hunt down each commanding AI core, with a recoverable super capital. Among them are:>the carrier saucer>a mech that swings a giant hammer around (inspired off that old webm)>a humongous multi-segment ship that's brimming with weapons and can separate/combine at will>one ship that i've been trying to work on for a while, it's essentially a gimmick ship where it permanently stays phased, and you need to capture a command point which is scripted to be a giant interdiction pulse (if you ever played R-Type Command on the PSP, it works similarly to a desynch shot, which drags ships out of phase space)I think I overshot my goals, because so many things don't work. I feel like I'm the only one in the modding community who hates rules.csv
>>2382499Oh wow I'm sure that drawback is going to be of real significance on a ship that will crash your computer long before any enemy fleets will even get the chance to come within visual range of your cheatmod mary sue ship.

>>2382559>controlled by playeryes>controlled by AIeh kinda, it still has crazy flux stats and is stupidly agile but it won't hit the risky maneuvers it needs to be giganigga tier
>>2382057https://www.ashesofthedomain.info/module/TheCryosleeper
>>2382559Its energy weapon setup is strong, compared to other ships with a similar offensive layout the hyperions small size/speed and strong shield let it instantly get in close which is the only issue with energy mediums, the teleport can be used to just get behind any agile ship or immediately escape to vent or whatever you need to do. Depending on your fleet comp you are just dropping 3 frigates for it. Under your control the hyperion is a very high impact ship. The real issue with it is it having the lowest peak time of any frigate and using up a ton of cr per deployment. Depending on what you are fighting it can simply just not have enough time to do what you could with a destroyer or cruiser or you occasionally need to fight multiple times and it isn't going to be much use.
>>2382559Yes. Hyperion's one of them "broken overpowered" ships even in AI hands although it needs specific officer & player skills to make it work well.It can't handle long fights though even with CRmaxxing.
>>2382559Its one of the most annoying ships to fight against but its still kinda DP inneficient. Can do funny things to lowtech and slow ships in general though and if the enemy lacks projection (fighters/missiles) its worse.
I am desperately struggling and failing to make diable avionics ships with accompanying weapons and fighters competitive with even vanilla human ships. If they're not facing something politely sitting around while it gets ganked by an entire fleet's deathball of wanzers the DA ships seem to just get rushed down and die.

Like, fill every slot with Sarissas and you've got a top sustained kinetic dps of ~15k, enough to shut down anything that comes within engagement range within a second or two.
>>2382711Maybe I should lower it to ten. The point is for it to be the most powerful carrier in both vanilla and modded starsector, but it has zero defenses otherwise. Been thinking of having a hullmod toggle that lets you change 10 fighter bays for a single one, but it clones it ten times over, like a souped up wanzer servicing gantry. But the balance would be a complete mess.

There are mod carriers like the Zepporia from UAF that have stats so high I used it as a battleship that has 5 slots, there's also the slightly weaker Neuxoria with 6. For pure carriers, San Batavia has a good one with 6, and Royal Azalea has one with 8 slots. For something that's supposed to be the ultimate carrier but will explode instantly if you sneeze on it, I'd say maybe 20 slots? It'd be a nightmare to fight but it wouldn't be impossibly strong. >>2382860UAF has its pure dedicated carrier. The mooparia has 8 wings and no weapon mounts besides the 5 medium and 3 light point defenses scattered across its entire supercapital hull. Zepporia is not supposed to be a pure carrier and if you try to build it to full carrier capabilities you will have absolutely no OP to mount even a single weapon on it, let alone vents to support said weapons.
>>2382874>moopariaHuh, I have never seen this ship ever.I guess that's not too surprising since I just recently learned the reisen/fusoreina are in fact not the strongest battleships they have. That's what happens when you have a commission faction you never commission with I guess. It's a battlecarrier instead of a pure carrier which is why I seperated it and the neuxoria from the sbr and ryaz ones but as I said when I used it I just entirely ignored the carrier part of battlecarrier.
>>2382881>That's what happens when you have a commission faction you never commission with I guessYou don't need a comission from them to get their ships. >>2383868>I never understood the point of this shit.>Why make a mod that cheats against other mods? Just don't use the mods instead?A quick rundown:Noah doesn't like that his snowflake faction can be defeated.Over the years he's added various methods to make them harder to defeat such as making invasion auto-fail and such. He also added shit to make the neuter his ships if they're in the players fleet.People could still defeat his fleets so he added a hidden damage modifier to his snowflake ships targeting mods he perceived as 'too strong' and against modders he had personal beef with.He got called out on this and tried to give a bunch of 'legitimate' reasons which were inconsistent with each other (some of which are shown in the above code). None of the reasons held up to scutiny, he cried 'my mental health', Alex culled the forums shut further discussions down.We took his code and made it target noahs ships and released it to the masses.Noah has a serious meltdown over this on the discord. Lols were had.Noah continues to have freakouts when ever BB is mentioned. So we keep it going.Should be noted he is prone to throwing tantrums both here and on the discord. He's also tried asking how to obscure code so nobody can see its functions but nobody wants to help him after the stealth-nerfs incident.

The only downside of the guardian is the low shield efficiency. I was thinking of upping the DP to 70 since it is a very rare boss ship, like the other cheat-ship

Part-time lurker, full time retard. Is there a QRD on Nia Tahl other than being your stereotypical mentally-ill fragile-ego modder? There have been incidents where they have literally told members to go on the forums and say X mod sucks and to post praise for Y.One of the best examples is when someone wrote some code for fighters that they wanted to copy, but he refused to share his source code (knowing that it would be copied without his permission). So tomato paste and a bunch of disorders fabricated evidence to try and force him to share his source code and one of the discord mods -who is also a forum mod- threatened to take his mod of the forums and ban him if he didn't share it.
