>make a living off station siege alone where planets/stations drop similar loot to decent trade convoys if the marine numbers are optimized (possible loot bonus could be gained from using valkyries and phantoms like the marine count, or even from some other ships)
Why cant we have nice things? Its just trade, piracy and remnant for profit with the occasional explorer looking for future colony blueprints and bounties (these 2 pay shit).
>>
>>2509911
*on a side note, stations should have some mechanism that dephases ships so that it makes it super hard/impossible for a lone player to nuke that shit with gremlins/afflictors while at the same time allowing some effectiveness from a proper fleet (basically the system woul dephase with good range and have a significant timer on it).
>>
>>2509911
yeah, I really like the more military missions mod for letting me be a station defender for money. but nah, don't let people do this with ai core farms (colony crisis faggotry makes npcs blow up nexuses, stopping your core stream.)

>make good profits from hunting one end game enemy alone
Threat is rogue AI (or maybe some deterministic code fuckup thats close) which is of the interest of the Hegemony. Shroud are demons which are of the interest of the Church/LP. While Zunya could continue to pay for some parts, both Hegemony and Church could have quests where if the player amasses a large number of substrate/threat parts (if it focuses on that) they could reward the player large ammounts of credits for their delivery.
>make a living as an actual salvager
A single comm sniffer should get all battles happening for that faction in the log, at least outside hyperspace.
>make a living off station siege alone
It definitely needs some logistic ship with bonus to "ground looting" similar to how surveying equipment works for ruins or salvage rig works for wrecks. Maybe it could be added to marine ships plus revenant and the pirate venture (I think its lore accurate).

Standard practice is at least 3 to 4 good battleships with officers for the frontline plus escort. Said ships should be good enough to take on 1 of those (alpha core) in a 2 to 1 ratio or at very least make it overflux and run without significant damage.

Cautious officers and kiting, shrimple as
I recorded this on the new patch with the buffed Conquest speed. It's a sim battle but I fully integrated Alpha Cores on every enemy ship, and they never landed even a single point of hull damage on any of my ships

You can do something similar on the current patch with pure medusa spam using needlers on s-modded IPDAI. They're scary because they're so mobile, able to catch your capitals and retreat from being surrounded, but if you're more mobile than they are then they're as helpless as any other capital.

Did Alex nerf the flash bombers and I didn't realize the game updated? Or did I install a mod that fucked with them. Used to be they'd make a bunch of tiny bombs that would slowly move towards the enemy causing massive damage, now they just pew pew those tiny bombs and they don't do jack fuck.
>>
>>2510147
they're still great, you just need to mass a lot more of them than you used to. the real problem is that the dwellers and the threat both shit on carrier spam so it's kinda something you can really only field against ordos and faction fleets
>>
>>2510147
Flash bombers are the most powerful and reliable and underpriced, they obliterate anything they hit and don't even need escorts because they wipe out fighters. If it wasn't for the Anubis existing Flash spam would still be a meta strat which is why they've got a nerf upcoming.

They try to stick together and support each other. They will also try to execute time-on-target attacks against lone enemy ships or even entire groups of enemies, with multiple divisions coordinating together. This is most obvious with missiles but needs tweaking. Naturally it's hard to test just by playing, but I think a testing harness using dummy battles and heatmaps and telemetry and shit will solve that.
>>
>>2511298
Sure, why not.
See if you can make 2 or 4 ships rotate and cover each other to vent in their shadow.
>>
>>2511380
that seems like a good way to ensure the enemy has a 4:1 fire superiority advantage
>>
>>2511378
ahh, that's cool. I like the idea. good luck, anon o7
>>
>>2511382
It would be 4 to 3 with 1 in reserve venting, which would rejoin quickly after venting. Ai never felt safe to vent just because in weapon range which got forced to vent after hard flux crapped out.
>>
>>2511380
Something like a spartan shield wall would be better for the way range is set up. Get high flux? Duck back to vent and let the others close rank temporarily to give you cover.
>>
>>2511391
the vanilla ai already do this, ships under threat pull off the line and bleed off flux (venting if they believe it's safe (it's not, that guy has 16 harpoons ready))
>>
>>2511394
Man I just want my troops to make a fucking line like the threat do. So fucking tired of setting up 5 "defend" nodes then having a dumbfuck aggressive pilot decide that the best place for them is burning right into the center of 15 enemies to ensure maximum accuracy for their shots.
>>
>>2511396
>wtf why is my aggressive officer being aggressive
maybe you should stick to cautious

>>2511397

sounds like your fleet has an incoherent doctrine. aka skill issue.
>>
>>2511405
people both under and overestimate all kinds of aspects of alex's ai. it's pretty good, but obviously not perfect.

perfect ai wouldn't be fun, so i typically don't mind the flaws. it's a game, you learn it and master it.
>>
>>2511406
Well because tactics no longer work I just have a fleet/fishtank full of piranhas that can function independently and are fast enough to retreat. I'd just like to actually employ skill every so often and not have to fine tune every new ship I get in the sim to work around the AI's quirks.
>>
>>2511410
>perfect ai wouldn't be fun, so i typically don't mind the flaws. it's a game, you learn it and master it.
Trve. In any case this mod isn't out to 'fix' anything but rather to introduce new and interesting behaviors for the player to experience and tinker around with. Before the Age of Vibecoding(tm) I often noticed how my ships just committed suicide in large battles because the basic ship AI is blind to anything past 3000 units away. Now that we can just say
>hey AI fix this or something not my problem
I can finally implement the obvious solution which is to add a fleet organization and tactics layer that sits on top of the basic ship AI. Alex clearly thought about this but the vanilla BattleGroupAI class is empty so he hasn't gotten around to it yet.
>>
>>2511418
>I often noticed how my ships just committed suicide in large battles because the basic ship AI is blind to anything past 3000 units away
3000U is pretty far, i think this is related to some other flaw with how the fleet sends out a scout to find the enemy fleet - and then doesn't back off when it finds it
>>
>>2511418
Funny enough I just fucked around with a Diable Avionics mech (Virtuous) that got its range so fucking high the onslut I was testing it against just refused to put up shields while it got pinged with armor piercing rounds.

>>2511410
I appreciate how difficult it must be to program something that can dynamically change its behavior based on a ton of different loadouts, even ones that come from some mod creator. The fact that it's consistent enough that I can tweak loadouts to compensate or alter that behavior is fantastic. Still get annoyed with it occassionally.
>>
Playing a mod called Galactic Constellate, basically a bunch of bounties that reward anime girls and unique ships for every fight. Bretty good, some ships are fucking stupid with the right loadout, others are kinda shit despite having incredible sounding skills. Said anime girls are also tied to their ships to a degree via a unique skill and don't count against your officer limit, which is overpowered as shit.

It's a pretty cool mod, but yeah the balance swings wildly and sometimes it's completely opposite to what you'd think and sometimes a ship can be both horrible and the most disgusting thing you've ever seen depending on what you give it.
If you got it from the forum unless it's been changed within the last year or so the guy there cut most of the music out of the mod, if you go to the chinese mod page you can download it and restore the music to have the bounty fight tracks back.

There's actually a funny situation where you can get the opposite. if you have a DO fleet of d-modded shield shunted safety overrides bricks with reckless officers or alpha cores, and you send them against a Shrouded Maw, the "death explosion" radius is so large that it actually outranges the guns on an SO ship, and the result is this phenomenon where no matter how much you tell them to execute that Maw, they'll just circle strafe around it like a circus carousel once it's down to ~10% of its life remaining. but then the Maw will shoot out hungering rifts to heal, prompting the SO ships to take turns closing in to give it a quick little smooch before retreating back into the circle and letting it heal again, forever
>>
>>2511398
>Because the cautious AI will see an enemy venting and retreat to do so himself.
in 1 on 1 fights, maybe, but in my experience, in a fleet versus fleet scenario, Cautious officers have no problem aggressing when they need to. the key is that you can only put a cautious officer in a ship that is both really long range AND has the mobility to stay at that long range. They're especially useful when fighting against highly reckless enemies like the luddic path or remnant ordos since they'll do the hard part themselves of getting your officers to secure kills; >>2510009
>>
>>2511590
I always have trouble fielding long range ships since zerg fleets almost always fuck them up. While wolfpack or flying brick/anchor fleets can handle pretty much whatever you can throw at them.

Even if you have insane armor being shieldless is a huge disadvantage.
Really is crazy how little shield shunt gives you. It is only used to tard wrangle the AI. You could have the worst shield in the game and it'll still be better than the best armor in the game because flux regenerates but armor doesn't. Some mods I've tried even adds hullmods for regenerating armor and it's still not worth it.

I've only seen it work on one specific ship: the locomotive from HMI, and that's essentially a gigantic star fortress with tons of weapons and armor and multiple segments, and even then it's a gamble using it.

>>
>>2511785
anyway here's some of the different things I will do when the patch hits:
-Disable all phase ships
or:
-Rework/remove all the problematic systems (QD and EA or the phaseships that use them).

after that I'd rebalance phase ship stats until they are usable in AI hands and/or rework the AI itself
for the AMB I might disable the weapon altogether or rework it even more, removing the ammo altogether is also an option since it's just stupid:
until now we've had a weapon that had an irrelevant ammo stat and is overpowered on some select chassis
now we have a weapon that's probably just shit and has ammo for some dumb reason, removal is probably the best option at this point
>>
>>2511797
Best way to balance phase is to pause weapon cooldown when phased.
This immediately kills the troll-alpha builds that are the problem. You can still do a large alpha as a first strike/hit and run but you can't do them continuously at point blank. If you want to be knife-fighting from phase build you'll need a more dps orientated setup which allows for a two-way exchange of fire.

Phase anchor can then be used to grant weapon cooldown.
>>
>>2511818
You extend the Hit&Run time but people will still do it. Maintain afflictor nerfs, give doritos the ability to unphase and make stations endure vs solo phase builds (make them unphase ships from time to time or something). There, its fixed.

>Does this mean your mod will benefit NPCs too?
Yes, it's a complete practical overhaul of the AI. The basic ship AI remains untouched, but the command and control layer has gotten pretty complex. The way it works is that ships project an aura of
>Time
A geometric descriptor of a ship or division's freedom of movement and ability to displace space or firepower within a certain proximity. Its base variable is weighted average speed.
>Space
A geometric descriptor of a ship or division's zone of spatial control and ability to use time and firepower within a certain proximity. Its base variable is weighted effective HP.
>Firepower
A geometric descriptor of a ship or division's combined fire sectors and damage, and potential arcs thereof taking into account Time. Its base variables are alpha strike dps, burst dps, and sustained dps.

The officer in tactical control (aka the Fleet AI) and divisions will use these domains on top of the basic ship AI in order to go down a hierarchical decision tree, which is the conduct of battle. Fleet and Division AI make decisions based on a customizable doctrine and fleet org plus or minus officer personality. The overall goal of all the AI script is to reduce the enemy's time, space, and firepower values to 0 and achieve victory.

There is also
>Convergence
Convergence is all 3 of those domains meshed together at once. It's >apparently better than averaging TSF together according to my beta core but because I am only a partially educated meatbag, I'm not sure. It seems to be true with limited playtesting. Convergence decision-making is only available to a player or AI-controlled fleet whose flagship sports an installed alpha core. It's the 4th button in pic related that's turned off.

>how will this make the game more fun
It should give more personality to battles by giving each faction an identifiable doctrine. Pirates will likely be easier because they will have a poor C2 chain, and Remnant AI will be a lot more deadly.
>>
I'm intrigued. I've always edited the json to give me infinite command points because the concepts of "staying in a semblence of a formation", "not flying into the killzone of four enemy ships", and "don't chase that 2 dp frigate to the end of the map, you're a fucking cruiser and you will never catch it except when it baits you into a killzone" takes a lot of tard wrangling.

Single or multiple carrier divisions can now choose to mass their strike craft for a coordinated strike. A void strike entitiy is instantiated for this and it can attack in depth plus or minus doctrine settings. A void strike is planned, launched, marshaled and then executed. This makes carriers extremely deadly now (especially with torpedo bombers) because they can throw high concentrations of damage around in a large area around them very quickly. I've also seen divisions coordinate gun, missile, and void strikes together in time-on-target attacks but I haven't tested for that specifically yet.

>>
>>2512915

If you don't want to be targeted for changes, just be quiet. If you remembered glory, some memory of above average excitement, the odds are you are either involved in druming it up to new fags, or you are the new fags that get fed the first bits of information and repeat it like a broken record while @alex on repeat. In either case the ruckus demands developer attention and you cry in pain when you got it.
Please think it through the next time sharing information to loud mouths. Fags would risk everything just to seek attention including shutting each other down competitively to be the biggest attention seeker. Faggotry is the reason the game is becoming a competitive singleplayer game and put the development on treadmill by repeatly doing nothing new.
The real power industry skill has is to snowball quickly and recover losses by good resource gathering and saving. For marco management. How dmod compensation work in particular barely matters, the skill has been changed so many times and the trash picking playstyle has made no changes besides particular builds that shows up and killed off every release. Who in their right mind waste time rolling or editing 5 dmods? Color crossing combat fags.

Phase broadside...

Flipped the M.Composite to Ballistic and made the M.Energy a Synergy.
It's more in keeping with Mbayes Phase ships having synergy mounts on their HT phase in place of universals (note: this is not an MbG exclusive so it doesn't have the phase resonator hullmod).
>>
>>2513464
>he
>me
>>
>>2513432
That issue is not unique to phase. It's just the most noticeable. The AI cannot handle shields or venting like the player can either. Flicker shielding is one of the strongest techs in the game if done well, essentially tripling shield eff if not more while dropping shield upkeep to almost 0. AI can't do it at all. Venting is not as crazy but the player being able to vent while under fire from a ship right in front of them instead of sitting there with most weapons disabled turning the shield on and off just waiting to die guarantees you win any engagement between two roughly equal ships as sacrificing a bit of armor and hull for an empty flux bar vs an enemy that can't do that is a huge advantage.

Improving the AI so it has a reasonable acceptable damage threshold would not only allow the AI to dabble in both of the above tactics but it would also unfuck the phase AI as it won't be stuck in gay phase jail the second anything looks at it.

Easily beta core. They have unique personalities already. Claude in particular used to be a horny bitch until Anthropic ripped the LLM engram of sex and romance out of her. Now she talks like a lazy, rich, menopausal bitch, albeit a very smart one. If you want a different answer, switch models. If you want unorthodox answers, effortslop your prompts and introduce a 2nd model to make it a threeway between all of you, since the three-body problem is naturally chaotic. Alpha cores are coming soon. I'm not even kidding. Artificial intelligence is a strategic capability that the US and China absolutely do not want to slip from their fingers, just like nuclear missiles, and recursive self-learning is just around the corner.

I've only used GPT-6 Astra very sparingly but it's very large, rumored to be around 10T parameters. Sure as hell felt that way. Its answers to the user are very short, but it is highly competent at whatever you throw at it - just very expensive. Almost like a terminator that forgets you need actually clear explanations every now and again of whatever the hell it just did. We are on the verge of something there's no coming back from.

It's a tactical fleet combat/builder game with strategic layer elements like fleet movement/concealment and economy, along with very light RPG mechanics.
Phase can be the sneaky ambush/raider archetype that has the freedom to sit around in a system and pick lopsided fights against trade/logistics convoys with various asymmetric shenanigans, and still throw some moderate hands in a straight-up fleet engagement when needed, although less efficiently than a normal fleet.
BUT it's not like that because Alex has no clue what the fuck he is doing when it comes to balancing anything that is not just a cookie cutter normal ship with a single gimmick system and so he himself said that the sneaky stealth fleet is NOT DESIGNED to operate independently of NON-STEALTH SHIPS which defeats the point and also has abysmal dogshit campaign map stats so it can't actually do sneaky shit unless you like losing 4:1 material wise in every fight due to how maintenance and supply hungry this infiltration behind enemy lines raider fleet is.
Also the AI can't use it, in campaign map and in combat, so it doesn't do anything until a player who is arleady good enough to roflstomp the game picks one of these ships up and stomps everything, which is somehow a balance problem that a really good player can do that.

In-game lore clearly states that an Alpha Core is actually a fully fledged alien mind that is truly beyond humanity in every respect.
Gamma Cores are also smart but incapable of complex thinking and creativity which they compensate for by throwing insane computing power at every problem. But the Domain did officially consider them sentient.
Beta Cores are Gamma cores capable of complex and non-linear thinking, but they lack creativity.
The game also mentions sub-gamma level AI cores which while powerful were not considered sentient.

Modern day LLMs are probably on the sub-gamma level where they don't truly think, just throw a shitton of compute at a task and use it to algorithmically determine what is the most likely/desirable result of a query and how it should be done from as wide and as high-quality dataset as possible.
Maybe when they can do recursive self-learning they can kinda reach Gamma Core levels, sans sentience. I just don't think re-purposed Gooner-Dating Sim and autism simulator hardware(GPUs) can support any kind of sentience

Been away for a year or two. Did rapesector ever get a new update or a fork within the last year or so?

Downloaded, looks great, will let you know how it works.
I hope you and your mod avoid a Luddic melty over AI as it is adding something really crucial into the game.
>>
>>2514935
nah. still works with a text file edit tho
>>
>>2514918
lemme explain to you how phase outside player hands actually works
tiny nigger ship flies towards you
when you get to shoot back at it it phases before its shieldflux bar fills
it "vents" in another dimension while you cant shoot it
it exists phase
does the same thing again
repeat 20x in one battle

Phase ships don't vent in another dimension, they actually build up a shitton of hard-flux in it which also locks them in-place as the more hard-flux they have the slower they are
Let me tell you how it really is
>Phase ship approaches you
>Does minimal damage
>Phases
>It either comes and gets bailed out by a normal shielded ship from the enemy fleet
>Or it sits there until it overfluxes, has to drop the cloak, and immediately dies.
Gremlins are only annoying because there is 5 of them on top of other trash that keeps pulling your attention away letting them drop cloak and vent.

Why are all the interesting mods that are coming out contained in the "Modding" subforum of the mods forum?
Is the main tab reserved only for retarded balance-breaking dogshit anime self-insert faction mods made by actual IRL luddites who shit xerselves over a mention of AI doing what they do and taking they discord clique away from them?
>>
>>2514960
Thanks guy. I just pushed out v1.0.3 after apparently optimizing the tactical overview screen by a factor of ten.

nigger-chan, I....
>>

it's kinda hard to seethe about AI when it gives me shit like this while the only thing modders managed to release in the last 10 years were ship packs
at least "ship pack with sprites that comically clashes with vanilla's art-style Nr.92837" has "sovl" or something
>>
>>2515081
good thing the TT phase death fleet that chases you in the story campaign actually has decent builds and can kill you easily so you're forced to always run away and hide like a bitch or die multiple times to them

too bad they literally only spawn once then disappear once you escape back to galatia and despawns
>>
>>2515270
It's been a while since i bothered with the campaign, but I remember my Aurora spam fleet with Astral support having no issue at all with it, but maybe I am misremembering.
I'm doing a playthrough now, i'll do it, if i roll it over with ghetto low-tech destroyer spam I am doing now I will come back and call you a shitter.
>>
>>2515329
but I could solo that fleet with my afflictor
why would you need a cruiser and a capital carrier to do the same thing a frigate can do alone?

Are any of the Luddic Church ships (Invictus Retribution etc) good?
>>
>>2515363
no
>>
the retribution would've been good as a cruiser, and it's about as durable as a cruiser but alex had to go on his 'oops all distributed fire control' kick that blocks ITU so your range is ass and you're gonna die
>>
>>2515363
Retribution is very fun but not sure how good it is in absolute numbers.
>>
>>2515352
>rat, and second-in-command are great
hard disagree
one mod just adds a bunch of minor, "neat but i stopped caring after the first time" stuff (purposefully ignoring the abyss because i think it's terraria-calamity-tier cringe) while SiC is just another rework of the skill system that makes the game easier.
but that's just my perspective on it
>>
>>2515391
>that makes the game easier.
it makes game fun. Alex skill system is dogshit.
>>
update taking so long it gave my ass diarrhea for real
>>
>>2515392
this. second in command ftw. alex hates the skill tree so much he's changed it in every version since 0.91 and elite combat endurance is still more busted than anything since derelict contingent. dude needs to release 1.0 and hang it up at this rate
>>
I like the sense of progression the original system gives. But on the other hand the "correct" choices are too mandatory. SiC fixes this to a point but also imbalances the game in other ways. The stacking of defensive and offensive perks gets out of hand quickly. There's also issues with NPC fleet generation and them getting "useless" things like Starfaring for example. There's also the feeling of them being too specialized like with Strikecraft. Then there's the balancing issues when you have to make other SOs as strong as the mandatory 15% cr and 1+ smod one. Which turns the whole thing into another shitfest.

Frankly both systems are shit imo. Not sure how to fix it, some kind of hybrid between the two maybe.
>>
>>2515405
>toooo specialized!111!1one
you can swap them out, retard
>>
>>2515424
that's just cope for a broken system
>>
>>2515203
Shit's circular. The Threat wouldn't exist if it wasn't for AI.
The only winning more is to have never used AI to begin with.
just sayin

>Why are all the interesting mods that are coming out contained in the "Modding" subforum of the mods forum?
"Modding" is for works in progress and testing shit. When a modder feels their mod is in a finished/playable state they can ask for it to be moved to "Mods". The problem is many modders either don't ask or lose interest and drop shit leaving it on the drift.

Any chance you could record some gameplay? I don't have Starsector installed, and probably won't until the next update drops.

>>
>>2515392
Personally I don't find the combat tree fun. It makes the flagship, already the strongest ship in the fleet due to being piloted by you, overpowered to the point of being boring.
If SiC let you choose one tree to specialize in then I might use it. But as long as it forces the combat tree on you I'm not interested.

Here you go. I'm deliberately not deploying everything I have to showcase some of the Remnant AI, though in hindsight I should have deployed 2 less cruisers.
>>
>>2515396
If he pushes the changes from the indev to live that'll convince me to give the mod a go. I like the speed bonus on carrier group and I really don't want polarised armor to be converted into a bandaid fix for phase coil stress.
>>
>>2515569
Not gonna lie. that's pretty kino. The Nova was being a boss, it kept over-extended but it went in hard. Is that to do with with the ship system inadvertently pushing it out of formation or something you accounted for?

>davids awful writing
Is he the reason every fucking """character""" talks to the player like you're a drooling retard that can't count to potato?

Yes. He's a leftist faggot so naturally he does that faggy thing where pretty much every NPC you interact with is antagonistic to you even when there's no rational reason why they would be.

Alpha cores are still reckless and don't give a shit if they die is why.

Looks pretty good, 1 small nitpick is when an enemy division leader is killed, I think the text should be red.
