In the vast majority of cases there are no lasting side effects. I'm not disputing that some do end up with long lasting issues but during the actual pandemic I had an older friend who was considered extremely vulnerable because he had COPD. He still unfortunately caught it but he said it just felt like a bad flu - so if a guy who ordinarily is coughing his lungs up most of the time anyway wasn't that badly effected I think the majority of people can rest easy.
