I don’t see a reason to watch if you don’t see your oshi in a parasocial way. Live your life and just do something else for entertainment then. I’m trying to leave vtubers slowly. Being /here/ just hurts me emotionally in the long run
>>104535649Maybe you should ask a place that actually watches vtubers. /vt/ only looks at thumbnails and number sites
>>104535649It is possible to just enjoy their content. Like with Miko, Peko, Subaru and Korone I don't give a shit if they're getting plapped by some dude as long as that doesn't affect their comedy. I certainly want to jackhammer those 4 girls but my main reason for watching them is comedy and gameplay. Now with girls like Lamy my reasons are certainly parasocial, I want her to titfuck me.
>>104535649I don'tit's a soiboy faggot nu-male cope so they can justify themselves in front of their oshi and other soifaggots how they're totally non-threatening and watch her for ther personality instead of her body
>>104535649there are two kinds of fans:1: Parasocial fans, which can be subdivided in honest and in denial.2: Dumb people that actually find them entertaining(normies and women fall in this category)
>>104536849>>104536474At least respect you two for being honest. I see no shame in watching them for fun but that’s not why I watch a vtuber. Trying to watch less and less and eventually leave. It’s hard. This place and hololive in general was a big part of my life for a while
>>104535649I just watch clips. The clippers distill hours long streams down to just the few funny minutes.I can imagine that watching streams for hours a day would feel like wasting your life away, but I only spend a few minutes a day watching vtubers.
real women are worse
>>104537163At least irl women will know your name anon
if I don't listen to vtubers and talk to them I get anxiety from feeling aloneat this point I need to have someone on the background at all time while awake or else I start thinking about bad things and can't even focus on work
>>104535649I'm a bit parasocial for a couple but I wouldn't say to a super unhealthy degree. Then there are some who are just actually good entertainers (rare for vtubers and women especially). Overall it's a good balance. I don't think I'd ever be able to watch someone who wasn't at least a little entertaining even if I thought they were hot or something though. I'd get bored with them too fast.
>>104535649Depends on how you define "parasocial". I AM invested in my oshi, but not in the sense of "I want to fuck her".
>>104537612not they don't, everyone knew me as the corner weird fat guy
I got into this back when it was just uploaded videos with barely anyone doing streams, live2D was barely used versus VR motion tracking, memberships/twitchsubs weren't a factor, and the "girlfriend experience" style of vtuber content effectively did not exist. I can't really say I'm fully "not parasocial", because the original appeal for me was the idea of an anime girl who has some kind of persistent existence with half a foot in reality, but it's a different kind of experience than GFE. I like watching cute girls do cute things, sing, play games, tell jokes, etc., and even a few males who are funny and can play games etc. in an entertaining way, and it's cool that there's a good chance that if I draw one of them and put it on twitter under one of their tags, they might see it and like/RT it. Watching cute girl vtubers has almost completely supplanted watching CGDGT anime for me and watching a vtuber play a game is just a plain superior experience in every way to watching regular streamers doing that due to the presence of an anime girl/boy on screen at all times.
>>104535649My oshi and the vtubers I watch are a perfect distraction from the real world and real life.
I don't even watch streams, I just watch VODs.
Parasocial-ness with streamers isn't abnormal. When one of the vtubers I watch is sad I want to cheer them up. When they accomplish something I'm happy for them. I want to see them succeed because I have an affinity for them as a person that they can't possibly reciprocate because there's one of them and thousands of us. As long as you keep all of that in perspective, there's nothing wrong or even unhealthy about feeling a parasocial bond. It's you fucking looney tunes with sexual or romantic feelings who need to give your heads a shake. And it's these same people who declare that watching vtubers for entertainment is stupid, because they aren't entertaining! So the entire thing is shot through with this weird misogynist vibe where you fundamentally don't respect them and the job they are trying to do, yet simultaneously wish you could fuck the cartoon tits. And yet it's the people not like this who are the "onions boys", lol
>>104535649I like the fan community my oshi developed.Working with other fans on fun projects and having a place to belong to has been really good for my mental health and helped me through a bad spot in my life. Sometimes they're projects to help her like stream assets or commissioning expensive fanart for her to use, etc. and other times it's self indulgent shit like fanart WE wanted to see. The community itself is just as important to me as the vtuber, and I really like that.
I'm not mentally ill and only watch people I can delude myself into having a relationship with. Imagine watching only movies with lead actors you have a crush on kek
