Here's what I think happened: in order to appeal to everyone and grow Phase allowed more irl content and influencers which also ended up drawing in people who had chips on their shoulders from other interests. Those people used the Phase sphere as a rest space but dragged their baggage in and continued their grudge match (likely set off be seeing different people in vtubing).

Phase and the earlier Phase fanbase didn't put their foot down enough because they didn't want to be like the eastern/idol fanbases with their own extremes so now you have a large section of people who hid behind Phase and the girls for their own shit/tribalism/culture wars who bring nothing but drama and run their own agendas.
