Amazing that it only took the graduation of 4 talents to make them realize this.
>>104637190Yeah that makes sense. Japanese often talk in a way that is read ambiguously, like there is often nothing but context differentiating I/she/he. You're supposed to just kind of know what they meant. ON TOP of the language being vague by default, culturally the Japanese want to talk around things instead of say stuff directly. It's considered savvy / polite to talk strategically in a way people get what you really mean without you having to say directly what you were thinking.Like if any of you watch subbed anime and they are translating more on the literal side, you may notice the Japanese say things like "that's a little..." or "isn't that..." and that's because they are trying not to say "that's a little rude" or "isn't that bad" and they assume you will just "get it." So in summary they may say a sentence that literally-translates like for example "sperm went in... It's pregnancy... That girl, is a bit..." and you are supposed to just know what they mean, who is it about. So yeah Cover not only needs translators but people who get the cultural contexts and divides in how communication is done and expected. Or otherwise the EN involved subjects might miss things, and that's a bit..
>>104637338>Real-life case when a "literal translation" misses the intent of the messageB-b-b-but 4chins told me that only localizers a.k.a. SJWs deviate from what's written...
>>104637399dibs.
>>104637970NTA but there are some things where subbers took liberties to entirely erase and rewrite sentences putting in things entirely unrelated to the actual original writing. But at the same time it's because the Japanese talk like shy autists that they may want to just add things we normally say and use in English (namely specifying he/she/they). It is possible to talk more directly in Japanese but they generally just don't. This is also why they tend to consider us rude brash people hearing us talk because we just say directly what we intend to and intend to not leave room for interpretation or to avoid directly saying something sucked or can't be done. How they fucking live like this and not go crazy, I dunno.

>>104637874>Amazing that it only took the graduation of 4 talents to make them realize this.Cover is often tone deaf but even they know that losing 4 talents looks horrible when the EN branch only had 19 talents. Hololive has many of the same management flaws as Nijisanji which go far beyond cultural misunderstandings. I am skeptical of the corporate excuses that reluctant employees somehow caused misinterpretations that were bad enough to cause graduations. That wouldn't explain why Mumei never got the 3D outfit from her 1 million subscriber wish, that all of the Mumei membership VODs were deleted, or that Mumei's nendo was cancelled less than a week after her graduation. That was very much determined by upper management. I am getting tired of Cover lying to fans and this article was nothing but damage control.
>>104637970To be fair, I wouldn't translate that as "no" either if you were trying to stay close to nuance in a translation. I'd probably try to go with some common English phrasing that also basically means no but technically is open to interpretation. e.g. "I don't know about that..." or something similar. Translating well is difficult.
>>104637153>Cover literally improving their working conditions>NIJISEETHEwtf
Why dont japs just be direct about intentionsYou literlly dont need a paragraph to say 'no'

>>104639024Because last time japan was direct about what they wanted they got nuked.
>>104639387That's not going to happen and even if it does japs are much worse.
