There was an interesting discussion in the previous thread about cataloging past events that spanned multiple nations. There was a note of concern about how to approach nations whose threads aren't constantly up (/ehe/ in that case).While I'm not confident I can immediately address the latter, I believe the former can be made less daunting by determining the mechanics of the passage of time in Viti. Coming to a consensus on how long a Viti year lasts using a basis that can be easily consulted would help determine when things like VShojo's implosion or the Selen termination debacle would happen, at least.I won't be able to participate in active discussion on the matter for the next several hours, but I hope I can provide my thoughts ahead of time while I can.As tempting as it may be for a rep of a thread that keeps numerical track of which edition it is, most generals aren't like that and there's no other easily consultable /vt/-exclusive method to be used for time. Therefore, I would like to suggest that a span of IRL time be colloquially agreed upon to be the equivalent of a year in Viti. My current provisional proposal is that of 1 IRL day = 1 Viti month, but I am very open to hearing other proposals and/or being completely disregarded.Tracing back to the question of how to handle the status and history of nations that are only active some of the time, I would like to suggest the following: If a general representing a chuuba, group, or company has existed (whether consistently or inconsistently) for a minimum of the equivalent of 1 Viti year, it officially exists within the world of Viti regardless of whether it currently exists on the catalog. I'm not convinced that a rigorous time scale would be particularly helpful or needed tbdesu. Maybe something more loose, like major cultural events on the board separating different generations of people.For non-permanent threads, I think as long as they're regular in some way then it's fine to include them. Reps could worldbuild this as having a less established government or being a nomadic tribe rather than having officially recognized borders, but they don't necessarily have to go that direction.

I generally agree that even nations that can't be found in the catalog can still be assumed to be around, if they were not too long ago. It's not like anons go up in smoke when their general is gone, don't forget, you're here forever.

It's pumpkin soup season for the taverns. I think related to calendars and time we can have both a universal timeline and a local timeline. I know Loreli will try to make a universal timeline for all of its records. Yet that might not apply to other nations and their local calendars. Each civilization evolves and dies differently.

>>105114682I think there might be a sort of pumpkin that is especially adapted to the cold /morig/ mountains, it doesn't grow in the depths of the Ilum valley, but it can be grown in most place where you can find some dirt, as long as it gets plenty of sun. They're called gremkin, are bright orange and slightly smaller than standard pumpkins, but their flesh is also sweeter, though the skin is tougher. They are covered in hard blunt spikes that serve a dual purpose of protection against being eaten too soon, and also being a point for morning dew to condensate, allowing them to draw more moisture from the dry alpine air.They would definitely be wonderful in a fish pottage, I think you'd also have icegrass flour dumplings in them, to make a sort of mountainous chowder. The dollops of goat cheese are added on top of the soup upon serving, to provide more contrast of flavor.

Because of that, it does some things differently, including the calendar. Segregation between deadbeats and the Trinity ethnogroups led to the former continuing to use the ancient HLG Era calendar when some EN nation started to use the Gura-based calendar. This can lead to some confusion, since the HL calendar begins quite a few centuries before the GE calendar, so the numbers don't match.
