Just in time I've completed Act 2 of Expedition 33. I was already spoiled with the enormous twist but man.... it still hit me hard. Like I can't even go finish the game I actually need to process that... Like the whole theme of the game is about dealing with grief and the twist doesn't change that but ... like creating an entire alternative universe with fully sentient human beings and creatures in them... how do you even meaningfully deal with that? I get the whole "anti-escapism" angle with it, but... like the already fake story and fake characters of Expedition 33 the game were already marvelous and the point of dealing nicely hammered throughout the narrative why did they have to make them twice as fake by calling them fake paintings made by fake people inside a real video game?
