This padded floor is *INSTEAD OF* Western furniture like chairs and tables with the whole floor acting as basically a huge couch. This has been diminished somewhat to houses just having a specific tatami room for sitting, or bars and restaurants sometimes having them as booths. In an apartment, naturally you won't have them at all.
