>>109145225She must have been practicing for a very long time. I've been practicing with Duolingo for a few months now and only roughly know 53 kanji and 512 words (most of which are just the hiragana and katakana versions. I still can't really do too much with it yet, and can only understand a few bits and pieces of native level speakers speaking on stream. Written text is even more impenetrable. To pass the N1 you need to know over 2k kanji, 10k words, and have a deep understanding of grammar and spoken conversations.
>>109145527For what it's worth, just drilling kanji and vocab with something like anki is a lot faster than duolingo, at least for reading. Back in my days of /djt/ the standard was like 10-20 new cards per day, some people did way more. Easy to burn out though, I only made it to like 800 kanji out of the core 2k and I've mostly forgotten them over the years since I've rarely used most of them. She's been studying for a while though yeah, multiple years. And she scored really well too.Ganbare though, anon. The most important thing is just having something you can stick with so you're always doing it.

>>109145648Duolingo's nice because it tests your speaking ability, listening ability, grammar, teaches you the proper stroke order for kanji, has you speak with a interactive AI, etc. I supplement it by watching Japanese vtubers and try to listen for the words I just learned, and try to look out for words I learned in chat messages. I'm sure my way of doing things has plenty of flaws, but I can slowly tell I'm getting somewhere with it.
