It could be, what seems one way on the outside looking in can very well be something else. But this was a grave mismanagement of a beloved talent that was treated unfairly to pretty much any other one. Management and Sakana have been very involved with making Jelly behave a certain way and policing what she can and can't say historically but this was taking a sledgehammer to her instead of a slap on the wrist for saying something that wasn't controversial and most of her fans and others agree with.

Not only did they implicate her for being something she's not (at the very least not on the level her CEO is) but also implicate the entire company, and once they rolled over and proved that this was enough criticism for Phase to self-flagellate they immediately started digging for stuff the other talents had said or done. They even went after sponsors of people not that close to her in separate gens just because their contact emails were easy to find. And the ringleader of this entire thing is most likely already on a fed watchlist given his history, nearly everyone involved have some sort of sus connection or interests that warrant a thorough search of their harddrives.

No matter how you slice it this was poorly handled and they ended up causing way more harm to themselves and the other talents, and the people responsible are directly tied to the fanbases of some of the politically correct talents. By handling it this way you are signalling that this is something other people with malicious intent can use against them, and there's more than a few. Pippa for example never collabs with some of her chuddier friends because of the potential harm it can do, had this been a twitter mob of alt-right goblins you can be sure that they would have defended them tooth and nail no matter how many sponsors they would lose. It's clear now that Phase Connect is not talent first, but they now have a bottom line to worry about and that makes them vulnerable. The only end result that will come out of this is that some speech will be allowed on twitter, and other will be monitored more harshly. This will compound the effect of attracting the same type of bad actor that will flip on a dime and go on a cancellation spree at the slightest incursion.

Literally all they had to do was nothing, and then maybe talk to Jelly behind the scenes and figure it out over a few days. This was way too reactionary for it not to become a data point in the future that someone will either use as justification to leave or as angle of attack. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Where I'm from there's a saying that the primary job an employer have is making sure the employees are safe, profit is secondary, being good at spreadsheets does not a CEO make.
