https://x.com/LegendofNerd/status/2014742086529003916So, do you actually have to pay Hololive a recurring licensing fee for their music in your indie game? Do you actually have to eat away at your profits (even worse if the game is free) to keep it listed? What about non-Holoindie free indie games, do you still have to pay a fee or can you use music for free (following the Derivative Guidelines). Any indie dev /here/ that could help clarify?
What does it tell you when the ONLY holo indie game that is having this issue is the one with the dev known for sperging out?
>>109318341that cover is a black company, obviously
>>109318287Unfortunately, Kevin sperging out and there being actual serious issues regarding holoindie can both be true at the same time. Either way age of advent was pretty fun. Kevin may be a bit of a loon but his games are usually really creative and good fun. Love the art and music for this one specifically.
>>109318287hi kevin, buy ad next time
>>109318341I know, Kevin is a sperg, so I didn't believe him at first. But now the artist warning that it might be gone due to licensing. Maybe it is a thing, but Kevin was the only one of the devs who went broke and homeless, so he was the first to run into money problems regarding fees?
>>109318410He would have had to be stealing for it to be delisted over fees (the "confusion" being that he didn't know he was stealing). Otherwise the fees would obviously be built into the price structure that Cover is owed a percentage of your sales just like any other fucking publisher. You can't be getting delisted because you haven't paid your fees unless nobody wants to buy the game and works that can't sell are delisted or you are stealing money you are supposed to be paying.
>>109318532I see. hopefully the artist just misunderstood the situation and is going off only what he heard from the sperg, and not someone from holo.
>>109318375 (me)Just realized this sounded a bit more shilly than expected, but whatever. I do recommend at least downloading that one since it's free and the fuwamoco minigame especially was adorable.>>109318410Nah, that's separate. Kevin unfortunately had his own problems iirc. After Smol Ame blew up and was the holomem's fixation for a while, Kevin went off the rails when he wasn't contacted for some project that he thought he was qualified for and ended up burning bridges with Holo (or so I thought) because of it. The girls stopped playing smol ame and didn't play any of his later games afterwards. Hell, I don't even think any of them played Age of Advent, and that was HoloIndie.I was surprised he got accepted into the HoloIndie program at all, but since he did it's really bizarre that something like this could happen. Wasn't this exactly what HoloIndie was supposed to prevent? Did Age of Advent use some kind of external samples that were problematic or did they just pick the wrong songs for licensing?
>>109318287Hololive music is rubbish anyway, Holoindie games can do without it. Really bad move from cover, they would benefit from fans listening to it a couple of hours.
>>109318754These all sound like remixes, so I would think these would be even more transformative and ok to use.>>109318844I mean, what's the point of doing a hololive fan game with hololive characters but not using hololive music?
>>109318410Or Kevin is just lying to artist. The fact that only game having this issue is one made by a massive schizo tells a lot.
>>109319097Here's hoping.
>>109318287the remixes in this game use the actual girls' vocals, which means they're entitled to royaltiesnormally the girls could waive their rights as a kind gesture to the developer, but after Kevin put a Holostar in the Fuwamoco game they decided to collect the full amount
>>109319033People come for the characters, not the music. No Holos = no playNo holo music = oh well, I'll play it anyway. Also characters are hard to replace, music isn't.If you have to charge for something. Charge for the characters, not the music.
