The main two reasons that made people suspicious about the "break" last time were the radical change in how FWMC used Twitter (they went from Twitter addicted hags that retweet and like lots of stuff all the time. to complete radio silence for several days), and the fact that the few tweets we did get had slight weird differences from the usual FWMC tweets, and that made people think they were written by mane-chan on FWMC’s behalf. The stealth suspension rrats were also later soft-confirmed when FWMC vaguely talked about that time period:

I wanted to go the extra mile & do something special to celebrate my own Valentines!
I've always felt that VDay is not just a couples holiday, but a day where we should express our love for the special people in our lives

I know that today wasn't how you wanted Valentine's to go this year, and of course I missed you today, but more than that I just hope things are OK and you were able to have a good Valentine's Day yourselves. You deserve to have a special Valentine's too, not feel sad or lonely
And even though I can't spend the day with you, Valentine's will always be a day where I'm reminded of you and how much joy both of you have brought into my life
And that's especially true when it comes to Valentine's Day itself lol. I don't think I could ever forget just how happy I've felt these past couple years on this day thanks to you

I know you don't like chocolate, but I got peanut butter and strawberry flavors this year, so hopefully that's ok They had blue and pink packaging! I had to get them
No pon-de-rings this year either, but I got the same donut that I got last year! It's one of my favorites

I dislike most management forced groups for the simple reason that it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Hololive and what people like about it. To be fair, that's not an issue unique to Hololive, literally every company on Earth has a disconnect between the people running the company and the people actually working for the company but that's another conversation.

Hololive is built off of streams. Streams are how most fans find the talents, but more importantly streams are also how talents find each other.

Numerous other essayposts have been made about the importance of streams so I won't go too in depth here but basically many great and long lasting moments from Hololive have come from streams, those are the foundation for the magic of Hololive and they in turn, are what make concerts more special. That's one of the reasons I miss having a big unified Minecraft server that so many people used to play on, because it allowed for interactions between Holos. It gave us many cool interactions like Sora's famous "So you're an enemy", the Aqua Shion Neighbor Wars, and all the various construction companies. It's always a treat for the audience to see girls interact with each other especially if they don't usually or haven't before.

What management does with these collabs and forced groupings is they just take what they think will make money and sell and throw it against the wall, with no regard for chemistry or what makes Hololive great. Umisea, HoloWitches, Advent VS Justice, these are all forced pairings that originate from management just trying to make things happen, and as such, they are artificial and don't last long and don't do well. None of those can hold a candle to say Advent alone, or Shiranui Kensetsu which many people say was the highlight of 4th Fes. They met in Minecraft streams, streamed a lot together, and eventually formed their own group with their own songs. When 4th Fes rolled around, Suisei was on Day 2 while the rest were on Day 1. Everyone was disappointed but of course you can't have someone on both days. So Shiraken did their song as the last song of Day 1 and in the middle, Suisei suddenly appeared and sang with them. It was absolute kino and magic and the crowd was roaring even before she popped up because they knew. It really lent to the feeling of idol magic and "anything can happen".

I think FUWAMOCO are aware of this which is why they've made such an effort to have Advent collabs whenever they can. Advent is definitely the closest EN gen and one of the closest Hololive gens overall and that's because they constantly stream together. And then when you see them all on stage together singing and dancing, it's like "Fuck yeah, they're really doing it together."

But the audience has to see that first to buy into it. It's not exactly like the toddler mindset of "If I didn't see it, it didn't happen" but fans like to be involved. Of course Holos can absolutely bond and form friendships offstream, but that doesn't always work out like Marine and Ao, with fans even having a negative reaction to it. Although that could also be because Marine rarely streams anymore so every rare stream being a collab hurt her. (See how streams are still important?)

Things like Umisea and HoloWitches fail because it's just Cover taking members and seeing if they will go together, without regard to the history of the girls or actual reality. They're not the only ones to do this, Niji tried to make two of their organs sisters and that failed horribly. It's much better to build something up from streams first and then have it become an idol unit like Big 3, SMOK, Shiraken, etc.

Anyways Advent VS Justice sucks, if they want to do something with it, they should let the girls experiment first. For example I think a "small bau bau" Autofister vs FUWAMOCO would have way more chemistry and staying power than Advent vs Justice and I don't even like GG.

Umisea at least made sense conceptually, throw all the aquatic-themed members into a group. We had a more organic group with Holotori, they had some existing chemistry, fan memes, good song and dance, etc. but management fumbled it for whatever reason. Maybe because it wasn't a forced meme group they could take credit for

It's a nice analysis. I agree that many management pairings and groups are forced, and they usually doesn't work, but I don't think it's that bad of a thing either. I 100% agree that it's tragic that there isn't anything like the old minecraft server, or rather something like it that everyone can just boot up and have fun and work with anyone else playing at the time. I think the closest approximations have been the modded servers like Pekora's dragon server, Botan's coin server, Watame's casino server, or the hardcore server event that Pekora made for Aqua's graduation. They were all nice, but they don't last that long, I suppose by design. The kensetsu arc in the 2nd JP server was, I think, my favorite.
So in absence of all that, I don't think the occasional management project is that bad of a thing, although I never got into holowitches or anything, and I know that didn't last, so I can't speak to the financial viability of those kinds of groups.

The thing is, I think UmiSea indirectly lead to the creation of both shinkiro and III. It forced Gura to work with Marine, who then wanted to make a duet original with Gura. After that was successful, Marine wanted to work with another non-JP member and chose Kobo. So I think UmiSea was a great success, just not due to anything that was made for it directly.

Anyone who watches streams would know that with the possible exception of Shion and Chloe, the oshi thing doesn't really translate into great long lasting content. Kiara and Pekora, Nerissa and Kiara, Marine and Fuwawa, Ayame and Noel, something about meeting your oshi in person. I think it's because maybe you build up an image of them in your head but when they become your coworker things change. Not to say that they all hate each other or anything, it's just not a guaranteed success. And like I said, behind the scenes bonding can happen but it's better for the audience if it happens onstream. We know FUWAMOCO have hung out with Suisei a lot but there aren't a lot of FUWAMOCO and Suisei streams and clips. Shinkiro was incredibly emotional when the MV released, especially because by that time, everyone could kind of already tell Gura was fading away from us and no one knew why. Looking back, it almost feels like Marine's personal send-off to her, and its story's ending literally foreshadowed Gura's departure from hololive only a little more than a year later.
You're right about iii. It's a fun song, so it's not really a tear-jerker, but you're dead wrong about Shinkiro. That song made a ton of people cry when it came out. It's also one of Marine's best originals and it's the best song that exemplifies Gura's specific singing style. The fact it's the only hololive original city pop song is also a huge achievement. It's really good, and you seem kind of dumb, because it reinforces what you were saying anyway: the best things come from the talents themselves working together, and not mandated collabs.
