Like the other post, doing some rapid-fire tracing to help build muscle memory helps a lot.
You're not trying to memorize exact styles or whatever else, you're trying to memorize the ratios of things that look well together.
One way that helps is find a fuckload of references on [insert search engine].
Real people, cartoons, comics, manga, anime, other art, anything.
Crop them and put them all in a big ass canvas, or multiple.
Use layers to make multiple groups of them even, like real, cartoon, etc.
Like pic related. Ignore the weird pervert for now.
So set a background color. (white, grey, black, pink??? whatever you prefer)
Make your image groups. (you can quick group by making a bunch of layers, clicking the checkbox next to them and clicking the + groups them)
In original images is your image refs, set layer to 50%.
In the sketch layer you quickly sketch out each of those images. Depending on how good you are, give yourself around 30s - 2mins at most.
The goal is to capture the essence of the face, focus on the details that matter most.
Drawing eyes? You only need the upper eyelid and eye size, the rest can be inferred or even ignored for stylistic reasons.
When you've done all your sketches, hide the original image layer, now stare at one of those sketches for 2 minutes, focus again on those shapes. After 2 minutes, hide the layer entirely and try redraw that image from memory. Take as long as you need for this step, but be realistic you just copied 100 images from Google Images, take no more than 5 minutes.
You can redo this step as many times as you want to, same with the sketch step actually. Compare them and see what ideas you like the most.
Be sure to actually copy the ones you like to a separate "winners!!" image file so you can reference it occasionally.
Optionally a "losers" layer for ones that looked shit as fuck so you can laugh at your inferior past self.

Just woke up, that's really cute!
Anyway, yeah it's a bit complex and crazy.
In that layer panel, the [+] button lets you add new layers. But it's also smart and lets you group things if you select them.
Of course, you can also just click the arrow and it shows you advanced layer types and even masks.
Masks are useful but probably not for you right now, if ever. I barely use them outside of clipping masks for cutting things like, like I did with the lia humping gif, I clipped her non-existent ASS off... is what I WOULD have said if I wasn't a big dumdum... haha... still, Lia humping nothing is funny.
One thing I do suggest at least, if you do the 50% transparency thing, at least place a background layer below that so you don't see the ugly transparent background checkerboard.
Any time I edit or trace out some assets, background layer of a solid color, the reference layer, then sketch like in that other image.
It makes things so much nicer to look at.

Yeah I'm fucking around with the layers already but I keep forgetting on which layer I'm drawing. I'd make one for coloring, finish that, move on to draw some extra hair, try to change layers after that and I guess the layer is coloring+hair now, kinda beats the purpose but that's a skill issue. I forgot on which layer the XY scale I drew for help was and it became a bit of an issue.
OH I also tried the vector thing but idk if it's my hardware problem or not but the lines I drew with that always ended up way the fuck away from the cursor, also it doesn't register pressure so it's not really suited for my pencil scribbles.
Didn't know you could edit gifs with that, that's cool.

Weird vector issues, never seen that before.
Shame because like the other said, vectors are great for doing really smooth outlines.
I tend to draw at 200% my target resolutions and resize down so that it smooths outlines even more.

Also, on layers, you can double click layers to just rename them.
I tend to just use short names like [sk]etch, [ou]tlines, [co]olor, [hi]lights, [sh]adows, etc.
Depending on what it is, I might add a number after it if I am experimenting.
Groups of layers are good for IDing what the layers are for so you're not doing shit like "color left arm", "outline left arm", "color right arm", etc.
All you do is make a group for each logical part of the drawing and it keeps them all nice and neat.
Only downside is when you take that over to the animations system. Kritas animation system SUCKS, you can't animate on the GROUPS, WHY?! FUCK
You also can't animate vector layers! DOUBLE FUCK.
