Who was the first vtuber you ever watched? Has your opinion of them changed since you first watched them?
>>109831104Kizuna AiNo, she's the same dork she always was.
>>109831104Before I even knew what a vtuber was Suris did some fill in work when my favorite atheist youtuber's wife died. I was fascinated by the technology. Completely unrelated to that, a few months later I googled anime shark girl because I saw a pic of Gura and wanted to know more. I didn't know she was a vtuber at the time, either, but after watching her I fell pretty quickly into the rabbit hole, taking the vsinger path to vtuber fandom.
>>109831104Haachama. I didnt like her at first but she grew on me eventually. Now I miss her like you wouldnt believe.
maybe Aiiunno if early irys singing streams countstill good
Pekora, still love her.
Gura. and yes. she is a uncorrectable lazy talented bitch.
>>109831104Mori, and no, I still think she means well and works hard.
>>109831104Korone>>109832046Your idol is a braindead nepo-baby. many such cases in EN>>109832520Solid choice. War criminal is the way to go>>109833755At her earnings I'd be a lazy fuck, too. People lose gallons of money to her
>>109831104ArtiaWell, about that...
>>109834124But that means she never wanted to stream to entertain people, she was only in it for the money. Doesn't that make you not wanna watch her?
>>109834661I dont know why people assume that if you become a vtuber, you must do it for life or else you are a fake ass grifter. I dont defend Gura here I think she quit streaming literally one year into her Holo career, but there are many others that streamed pretty consistently for 2-3 years and then slowly retired and they still get shit for being lazy and/or grifters.Real life idols careers also dont last forever they are active for a few years at best and then they fuck off...unless they become giga famous of course.Vtuber fans are mentally ill. Its like becoming a vtuber is some soulbound contract that you will stream at least 3 times a week for the rest of your life.
>>109834661>Doesn't that make you not wanna watch her?It was not her only motive. I do hope she gets to be on children's TV shows one day like she was talking about. She certainly used the opportunity to sharpen her charisma, but I don't think vtubing was a long term goal for her unless I missed something. Further, I think becoming an indie is both a backup for income and insurance for if she can't find more work, but I can't prove this.
>>109834763She almost never streamed as Gura. Then she graduated and became Saba. And... she still almost never streams. Like maybe twice a month at most. Twice a fucking month. Do I really have to explain to you why she just happened feel like streaming when a new game came out (Hytale) that everyone was jumping on for views?
>>109835112Most people had the chance to learn their lesson early on. If they are still expecting her to be even semi consistent after all this time, thats on them being retarded.
>>109834833>She was only using vtubing as a launchpad for other careers instead of wanting to hang out and entertain her viewersDoesn't that... make you not wanna watch her?
>>109835167I'm not expecting anything of her, I was just saying that she was only vtubing for money
>>109835170If she provides quality content, why does the underlying motive make a difference if it's not unlawful or against any ethical framework I apply? Gura is still fun.
>>109831104techincally Laimu, since I watched her before she started vtubing. I don't watch her any more but I was always on/off watching her anyway
>>109835496Because what makes her fun is that she wants to hang out and spend time with her viewers. She herself is the content. Would you wanna hang out with someone who didn't wanna hang out with you and only wanted your money?
>>109835603>Because what makes her fun is that she wants to hang out and spend time with her viewersThis isn't mutually exclusive from the business angle, but the reality is that:1) vtubing for corpos is a job2) the relationship is parasocial 3) people can do what they love (talking and connecting with a broader audience) while still making it a career Where's the contradiction?
EEKA BOKA
>>109831104I'm not sure, but probably Korone. My opinion hasn't changed much, though I respect her more now.
>>1098359221) You can be a vtuber for both money and wanting to hang out with people2) Vtubers are parasocial too3) She doesn't love it, that's why she doesn't stream. She only streamed when she needed money. Why are you defending a vtuber who doesn't even wanna be a vtuber?
Korone. Watched her play Sonic 2 all the way through despite not knowing Japanese. Never really continued to watch her much outside of that, but she got EN to start getting recc'd on my youtube sidebar in early 2021.Kiara was the first real watch. By that I mean someone I actively sought out content from. I still watch her sometimes and have been membered for almost 5 years, but her content and general attitude has made me check out of a lot of her streams. I liked the early Kiara, high pitched voice and all. She still had the bull-headedness but was a little less sure of herself which tempered the 'GIRL BOSS' stuff a little bit. Not that I hate it entirely, but she's 100% lost any of the J-pop stuff and the general feel that I really liked about the first couple of years.
>>109834763You're on a board that obsesses over these e-celeb personalities. You're going to run into crazies who get so attached they go blind and flip out in a rage if anyone says anything negative and crazies who only see the color red when they see a person because their hate runs that deep and they want to yell about it to others, plus a smattering of shitposters in-between. It's not surprising that those kinds of people get whipped up into a frenzy when the target of that affection/hatred moves on.
>>109836123Reframe it how you want, but if the content is entertaining and not some immoral shitshow then I'm willing to watch it. You have the same ability to choose what you want to watch, not watch, or whatever. No one is gonna make you watch Gura, Senzawa, Same, or any future model. Why do you care if anyone else does? What are you gonna do about it that her fans still support that ambitious woman's goals?
>>109836890It's a mix of things for different people. Some are unironically jealous of her popularity, whether it be the actual talents themselves or just fans of talents they think 'deserve what she has' and view it as unfair that their talent has far less attention. Then you have the burnouts who are upset by some slight they felt was pushed at them from the talent and they will take any opportunity to shit on them and be mad about them doing well without them as a viewer. Other than that, just shitposters and trolls. You come to this board to talk about things related to vtubers you like and dislike, it's not a surprise that some people want to voice their anger, whatever shape that takes.
>>109836890I don't give a shit if you wanna waste your money on a streamer who doesn't stream, it's your money. I actually find it hilarious that you are so mentally ill that you would support a vtuber who doesn't give the smallest shit about you or anybody else who supports her. Even if I could stop you I wouldn't. I was just pointing out how she doesn't care about her fans and how people like you are supporting this """ambitious woman""" who doesn't appreciate your support or even give you anything in return. People don't go to a store and give their money to a cashier and just walk out without taking home groceries lmao. You might as well be putting your money through a paper shredder. I'm not reframing anything, that's just the actual truth whether you agree or not.>What are you gonna do about it that her fans still support that ambitious woman's goals? You sound insecure about me not wanting to be a complete dumbass like your are lol
>>109837403I'm not jealous of anything, it's just insane that people throw their money at her when she doesn't even stream. You might as well be tossing your cash into a fire you idiot. The only reason you are defending a streamer who DOESN'T FUCKING STREAM is because she's popular and you wanna hop on the bandwagon because you are a pathetic loser.
>>109837528>>109837684>People don't go to the store and give their money to the cashier and just walk out without taking home groceriesAnd in almost every single case, this is still true for just about every vtuber. Entertainment is nothing but a time waster. It's fine to enjoy it, but it's laughable that (you) seem to think you can deem what's worth calling entertainment and what isn't.
Shachi
>>109837741You are giving your money to somebody who doesn't even give you entertainment. There is no entertainment because she DOESN'T FUCKING STREAM. How stupid are you? Jesus Christ
>>109837878I don't give her shit. I've watched I think 5 Gura/Saba streams total in the 5 years I've been watching vtubers. I just think it's stupid to get so upset over what someone deems to be worthwhile to them when you do just the same and other people would probably say the same about your choice.
>>109837955There is nothing to deem worthwhile because she DOESN'T FUCKING STREAM. How many times do I have to say that? Also, I don't do the same as them. Try again.
>>109838039One stream might be fine enough for them. Again, your judgement is your own and what you find worthwhile and worth paying for is not what someone else does.A good chunk of bigger vtubers subside on retards who feel indebted to them, I don't see why Gura is the only one who's somehow 'abusing the system'.
>>109838127???I never said Gura was the only one. Snuffy does the same thing for example. And more vtubers then those two do it too.
>>109838229Literally all of them do it. They abuse the system in the way that they get braindead retards to hand over money while doing as little as they think is possible to do. Hell, half of them have a reinvention at some point during their career and fuck over anyone who liked and supported them for their old content or 'old self'. It's all horseshit and a reminder that you shouldn't get so connected to some online content creator.
>>109838350I'm not even sure what we're arguing about anymore because I agree with you. I do genuinely believe that there are vtubers who love their fans and wanna hang out and make them happy though.
>>109831104The first one I found without recommendation is still my oshi to this day. She passed the vibe check hard.
>>109831104>SoraShe became a fucking baby
>>109831104>gurayeah, it hurt when she gave up but what can you do other than move on
>>109831741same.miss my chama.
>>109837528I don't even watch gura, anon.
>>109831104>Who was the first vtuber you ever watched?Ai
>>109831104Kizuna AiYes
>>109831104Choco nah
>>109831741God it's a shame what happened to her
>>109831104veibae, her bitchiness wasn't an act. she is just a bitch
Kizuna Ai 9 years ago already
>>109831104Patra I think?Not really.
>>109831104Korone. It hasn't, she's still amazing. Keep it up doog.
>>109831104first one I watched was pekora because I wanted to consume more media in japanese to train my listening comprehension and I could listen to her streams while doing other stuff, it's not like a podcast or a movie where you have to keep your attention there>Has your opinion of them changed since you first watched them?yes. when I started I had the usual prejudice: that vtubers are shallow, normie women only pandering to their disgusting audience for money. but now I have a more nuanced view on both the audiences and the vtubers, and I don't think either side is as cynical as I originally imagined. it has white-pilled me, so to speaklust provoking image so people will open your thread
>>109855016The greatest to ever do it, they say
>>109831104AmeI hate en now
>Who was the first vtuber you ever watched?Korone.>Has your opinion of them changed since you first watched them?Yes, I love her even more now.
>>109831104Started with Korone clips that kept popping up on Twitter, but the first one I watched was Gura>KoroneI still like/respect her, haven't watched in a long while but she's always fun to watch regardless>GuraKinda disillusioned me to getting too attached to any Vtuber tbdesu, between all the ghosting shit and then graduating into reincarnating into also not streaming still, it's clear as day she'll never change. I also miss when she used to try with karaokes since she does have a nice singing voice, but it's easily been over a year since she's sang without fucking around too much...
>>109855046>I don't think either side is as cynical as I originally imaginedThat's really interesting because for me it was the exact opposite. I started out thinking that vtubers were a bunch of cute and kind girls who wanted to sing and play games and hang out with their audience. But as I dove deeper into this industry, all of the drama made me start seeing vtubers as, like you said, shallow normie women only pandering to their disgusting audience for money. Having that view sucks a lot actually.
>>109864336Adding onto the Gura thing, I think it's probably embarrassing if you defended her knowing that she retroactively took the wind out of a lot of the defenses.
>>109831104Korone. I understand more facets and details, but the core Idea I mostly understood right away. Don't watch hololive/niji style content anymore.
>RushiaALL YOU HAD TO DO
>>109831519The real one is gone
>>109834124>nepo-babyNice, more schizo shit
Kiryu CocoFirst I thought she was a retard, then I thought she was a genius, now I think she's a retard againDoes that count as my opinion changing or staying the same?
>>109831104that one guy on /a/ who recorded himself while jerking off and using an anime girl avatar i used to think he was a degenerate now i know he was a visonary
>>109868698I kinda used to, but it was mainly trying to cope/understand whatever the fuck she did. I'll never really hate her, but man it just kinda fucking sucks that I did like her content and now kinda don't care because she's too distant to give a shit about even remembering honestly. At least I have other chuubas I still like and plenty of hobbies in any case
Miko's GTA clipNo
>>109831104i was already aware of vtubers but ironmouse was the first vtuber i actively followedwhat i think of her now is that she lost her soul as a streamer, i am glad she is seeing success but all that clout and money came at the expense of becoming an accessory for popular normalfag streamers
>>109871930Mind-boggling that even in 2026 this myth just won't die.
>>109831104I don't really count Kizuna Ai since she was just a gimmick channel at the time rather than being part of any kind of genre. I'd consider the first real "vtuber" I watched would be korone clips floating around discord back in like 2019ish.
>>109876606She coined the term "Virtual YouTuber." Kaguya Luna, Korone, Tsukino Mito etc. exist because of her.
>>109876658They do but it's disingenuous to group her in with the post-nijisanji streaming-focused definition of the concept. Otherwise you might as well group in everybody with an avatar who did prerecorded shorts like WolfyChu or Annoying Orange,
>>109876750Again, she specifically coined the term "Virtual YouTuber" and is the reason why all other VTubers exist. VTubing moving mostly to streaming does not make her not a VTuber, and there are still VTubers around who mostly do recorded content. Annoying Orange is not a VTuber because superimposing your face on a photo is not VTubing.
>>109831104OGs know.
Was vaguely aware of vtubers and hololive shitting up the homepage of Reddit but didn't really know what it was all about until like 2021.Then randomly stumbled onto a Mumei karaoke and was blown away. Soon after that found my oshi and have been obsessed with the medium ever since.
>>109831104Pikamee, she segregated her viewers and abandoned tomoshika so yeah, my opinion changed.
It was holo clips and veibae for me. For some reason Twitch kept pushing her onto my recommendations even though I barely had an idea of what a vtuber was back then. My younger self was like "oh this weird anime maid lady is on again" and she would yap a whole lot on stream. As I only watch streams on Twitch because YouTube streams were omega ass then, I eventually find myself tuning in from time to time to see what she's up to. My opinion of her is that she's a lot more brazen than I originally thought she was.
