I'm listening via the Spwn VOD and I agree it's fairly distracting with GG's "Queendom inthe borderline". But in later parts like GG's "Fool's games you always play" it sounds very subtle or even a normal harmony (she has a lot of overtones in her voice to start with). But the weird synth picks up again especially at CC's solo "Rushin' in a fantasy, wanna be disease". Another thing is some sound effects/produced parts were too loud compared to the live band. I wouldn't say it's busy but the first chorus, "Standing on the Edge", the band nearly got drowned out. It's not so distracting around Raora's "Eyes follow now, do it, do it" and into the breakdown which was fun.
Apart from the backing vocals at the start I really enjoyed this version of Above Below. I think Gigi and Raora's voices have settled nicely after all this time and just need regular practice. Gigi especially has such a cool pop voice if only she could control the higher parts from turning into a scream (but it's pretty hype in karaokes).

Yeah LOTR seem like one of those movie you watch just to see where a lot of modern inspiration of things came from. Of course you know the tropes and motivations already because you've probably seen aspects of it in games, shows, music, and art you actually grew up with. You just watch these older movies like Star Wars, Godfather, Silence of the Lambs or Matrix not because you're guaranteed to like them, but because enough people did back then that they made all kinds of inspired works after. Of which those movies were also inspired from even older stuff. I think that's something cool to have in mind while you watch these things for the first time decades later.
It isn't really the same to read "a classic fantasy setting" in a wiki or some talking head trying to explain why every damn curtain and candle in the series is actually important. I dunno, my own projection from refusing to read books I guess.
