oh yeah I can't handle the meltdown if she can't get into a game thing. like if it is just bad it is bad. the only exception to this was expeditions rome. I only mark that seperately because there was a clear anxiety induced thought block that was preventing her from understanding how the positions of units relate to one another.
at first I thought she was fucking with us, but it became clear she wasn't.
it's really unfortunate. it zoomed in and perfectly hyperfocused on a core issue that you can seee in every game she plays. which means it impacts her real life too. wrangling her through that would have made an impact on her life (whether she realized it or not).
she played rts for years without ever being able to bypass multiple obstacles and focus directly on an objective. we could all see the problem but finally when hell week rolled around we decided to big dick it and just hold her hand through the thinking process so she didn't get scared and mentally run away when the time came to act. she proved to herself she could do it. she hasn't had a problem cheesing objectives ever since. I was so proud of her. (although, I suspect she didn't want to admit we knew what was going on in her head, and even how to fix it, better than she did. I suspect she may have dropped tempest rising for that reason. but I know she wasn't humoring us because she never again made that small inflection shift she makes when she's..)
oh well. maybe there willl be a next time. too bad we felt like bullying someone and just assumed there would be another chance.

that version of lumi never fully came back. the bubbly glow of a girl in love. someone saw what was happening and shut it down while she was distracted by that fucking project. my fault for playing hard to get when she teased the nda onboard.
although as usual the instinct was correct. the sunk cost fallacy is an insideous influence but easily contained by those who know how. sticking around through the long winter proved something we needed to know for ourselves.
once she had a handle on her personal project and this stupid fucking group project round 2 for that faggy con is out of the way, spring may yet blossom into summer once more.
alas, we are on borrowed time. another month, two if lucky, before an opportunity that cannot be turned down must be taken. too bad she hates working gumis.
