That is actually the purpose of most published academic work though - to be built upon. Research isn't meant to be admired as art. And that's also why if you were to exclude academic research from an AI's training, it probably wouldn't make a difference because it probably gets referenced so much elsewhere that it doesn't matter - because that's how written information is used.Personally I don't give a shit about AI art either (on a moral level at least - I think most AI art is shit because of how error-prone it is but that's a different issue), but there's pretty obvious differences between AI art and LLMs, even if the way they learn is the same.
