>>111410484Yeah for sure.If you don't learn the rough shapes and ratios of how bodies are supposed to work, it's a lot harder to translate an idea to paper.That just comes with practice, and said practice covers a lot of different methods, from the tried and tested trace-over-reference to figure out what ways you prefer to pick out details to drawing a grid over an image and doing grid-reference drawing, measuring with your finger / pencil, drawing with simple primitive shapes, etc. There's loads of ways to do it.I did the trace-over method where I find loads of model references, porn, even my own body, and did dozens of redraws over said imagery, refining sketches until I found the light bouncy curvy outlining style I prefer drawing.Recently I've been learning side-views though because that was my weak point.Through the repetition you eventually figure out the overall ratios of where shit should be on a body, and you no longer need to do those methods, unless it is a really complex piece.When you learn the basics, that's what allows you to then go a step further and refine those shapes but maintaining a nice ratio of where things should generally be, and that leads to all your different art styles from super realistic to the very abstract. Learning to just copy a style or look directly isn't really going to help you if you can't replicate it without the reference at hand. I mean you can do it all you want, so many companies do from cartoons to film to gamedev, but it makes you less flexible skill-wise. Being able to copy something versus being able to copy and tweak the essence of something, the latter is way more attractive and honestly doesn't even take much work. Less than a year most.
