Something elegant about a one-engine jet fighter like Mitsubushi's F-2. It's not a F-16 although it plays like one.

>It's not a F-16 although it plays like one
Uh, what? It's literally a Mitsubishi F-16 derivative.
>The Mitsubishi F-2 is a multirole fighter that was derived from the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, and manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Lockheed Martin for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, with a 60/40 split in manufacturing between Japan and the United States. The basis of the F-2's design is the F-16C Block 40. Production started in 1996 and the first aircraft entered service in 2000

Funnily enough the 262's speed was a detriment to its ability to kill bombers. The pilot would only have a few seconds to take a shot. It wasn't until the R4M was developed that they began downing bombers at a rapid pace.

I hope WE (EU) gtfo of nato and just go back to making our own shit
>>
>>6051301
That plane fell out of the sky due to maintenance failures as 1/3 of the hydraulic fluid was actually water. You are also a brown monkey and not European but that was obvious enough.
>>
>>6051301
is the EU leaves NATO they'll be fucked because they leech off of the US for money for military because they spend their own money on free housing and healthcare for arab invaders

Either way is bad but at least the shitskins can be used as dirt cheap workers plus we are rejecting the free border mentality already. American tech is just a hindrance not matter how you look at it

Meanwhile in reality: Norway, Australia and Belguim have all given up on the NH90 helicopter due to excessive maintenance requirements, high costs, and low reliability (Norway's could barely get 25% of the intended amount of air time). Instead, they will operate American H-60 Hawks, which can do all the same things, while being far more affordable and actually reliable.
The indisputable fact of the matter is that Europe is too divided and individually too poor to do even half the things America does, and thus will always lag behind in military tech.
Case in point: France's E-2s.If Washington says "We need a new carrier-borne AEWACs" then every state ponies up, because even though half of them are landlocked, they are all part of one country. Meanwhile if France says "We need a new carrier AEWACs" all the other European countries will say "We have no need for such a plane; we don't have any fleet carriers!" and will refuse to back the project. Thus, France would be left with three choices:
1) Spend a ton of money to design and build a completely new plane and radar system, even though they only need half a dozen at most.
2) Omit the AEWACS, and give up a major benefit of having spent so much money for cats and cables on your carrier
3) Just buy an American plane, since they have lots of carriers and thus have the expertise and economy-of-scale to produce an affordable and reliable plane for such a specialized role.
The first two choices are obviously super stupid, which is why France chose to just buy American E-2 Hawkeye.
Every country has its own needs and desires, and thus they will never pool their talents and money together the way the USA can. We saw it with France dropping out the Tornado project, the Eurofighter project, and we're seeing it again right now with France and the UK doing their own sixth gen projects instead of working together.

They still use them for pentesting at Groom Lake, among other things. That shiny coating seen on Raptors and F-35s? They were used to test that.

>>6066265
where's the F-35C?
>>
>>6067872
Entirely dependent on the carrier, only a few are capable of operating F35C's due to the engine being so hot it will destroy jet blast deflectors (the wall behind the jet right before take off)
