I would like to get into visual novels. Can you recommend me a good "starter" title to get started with the medium?
>>1538201Steins;Gate.Just know you'll be looking up a guide on how to get the true ending. Other than that, it's a very basic VN with a great story, mystery, and characters. There's also this chart the VN people on /vg/ made, but it's extremely outdated, so do with that what you will.
>>1538203Oh, I should say to get the original version of Steins;Gate off of Steam and to use the "Committee of Zero patch" that fixes a bunch of things. You can find that here: https://sonome.dareno.me/projects/sghd.htmlIf you want a more streamline and condensed experience that's more akin to watching the anime, you can get Steins;Gate Elite instead, but I'd recommend reading the original and then read Elite at a later point, if you enjoyed the original.
>>1538203>picThanks for the list. I'll investigate that too.>>1538203>>1538204Yeah, I heard of Steins Gate a lot. I'll look into that one as well.Thank you.
>>1538201I go to vndb and just put whatever thing I like, I'm assuming you're okay with OEVN's try:DDLCSteins;GateKatawa ShojouFata MorganaRaging LoopChaos; HeadFind Love or Die TryingWhite Album 2Little BustersEverlasting Summer
>>1538221I'll definitely check vndb.
I can recommend Saya no Uta and Fate/Stay Night, the only two I've played until now. Fate is a little long but I found it to be awesome. There's also Chaos;Head, which I didn't played but the anime was somewhat good (had a good premise), so I guess the VN is far better.
>>1538203Thank you for the rec chart.I've read Steins;Gate, Saya no Uta, and Umineko. I skimmed Yu-No, because I listen to the music and thought I should read the story someday.Song of Saya / Saya no Uta was pretty rough as a "beginner" thing, but I guess it's a "if you can't handle this, you are in for a bad time when you try others."
>>1538201>>1538203I don't get why people need 'beginner recommendations' when it comes to VNs. Nor do I get why fsn gets recommended for beginners.Read whatever you want, it's not like going into an established game franchise and figuring out which entry to start from, you can read anything you want and it'll be completely self-contained.If it's due to fear of becoming bored and quitting a large project you have sunk many hours into, I get that, but then why on earth do people recommend fate stay night, when it has both the length of something like umineko and also a ton of boring, pointless SoL scenes that add nothing. A short, plot driven thing like Saya no Uta is the perfect recommendation when you just want to finish something and to be able to explain to your normie friends what a visual novel is.
>>1538665>Saya no Uta is... perfect... to explain to your normie friendsno.
>>1538201planetarian is very short and sweet
>>1538666Isn't there a version that removes all the porn? What if they played that one, could they still not tell their friends?
>>1538673I'll check that.
