I bought a laptop from my workplace, it's in good condition. But the laptop would not allow any access to external usb storage, always saying access denied. The account I'm using has Admin status and also has a password I can't remove. I have confirmed with the IT department in my workplace that they're not managing the device remotely and I uninstalled Jumpcloud. How do I gain access or is my only option reinstalling windows?
>>1539879Just reinstall, who knows what's on there, they are probably baseding on goon.
>>1539879>is my only option reinstalling windows? You can try resetting Windows. Which basically has the same effect as reinstalling Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Reset PC
>>1539886Does resetting mean I have to install drivers again?
>>1539879>>1539891give it back jamal
>>1539891Yes? All 3rd party shit is nuked just leaving the original 1st boot Windows install. Even Windows updates may be nuked, but Windows will reinstall everything you _need_. What drivers could you need that Windows doesn't already handle? You haven't installed some obscure aftermarket WiFi card, right?
>>1539879Looks like a group policy.Try going to group policies manager (gpedit) and look for external devices policies.
>>1539901This was it.I found the policy in Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Removable Storage AccessThey enabled denying access, those bastards. Now I have to find the policy forcing passwords.
That was a bit of a pain but less than reinstalling.Had to activate the built in admin account as the policy for local admin was disabled. Changed the minimum required password from 8 to 0.All good now.they probably have other shit changed but this'll do for now. Thanks everyone.
>>1539908You're welcome. The group policies manager is a very useful tool. For example, it's one of the only things able to actually stop the goddamn constant Windows Update and many other useful blocking features.
>>1539891Just use this.https://www.glenn.delahoy.com/snappy-driver-installer-origin/
>>1539879>is my only option reinstalling windows? That should be the first thing you when buying a used computer.
>>1539891Why did OP buy a Windows XP laptop in 2025???
