I have a big problem with windows and it loading my downloads folder for the past month.
It simply refuses to let me view all my files there and neither won't it let me move them elsewhere as it simply crashes on me.
How the fuck do I fix this problem jeetsoft has been causing me?
Don't even fucking dare suggest I do "sfc /scannow" or "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" because I have done this multiple times already and it does nothing to help me despite it being the only thing I've found online.
I NEED the files there as it's for a legal issue and jeetsoft has utterly prevented me from accessing them.
This happens even when I removed 90% of my downloads folder and moved it to my desktop. Now both folders refuse to load, crashing on me instantly no matter what view setting I use. Initially the downloads folder was 12gb, now it's 645mb and yet it still refuses to load AT ALL.
When I am using other applications to access my download folder so I could send files that way, it shows up and loads without a problem.
Now file explorer won't even show me directories to other files.
How the FUCK do I fix this issue?

back up your bitlocker keys, (or remove bitlocker encryption), mount the ssd to another computer, recover all the files and reinstall windows. Thats probably the easiest way.

Boot live linux usb.
>>
>>1541304
boot into a microsoft dart recovery usb and them copy the files from there

One of your "Quick Start" entries is broken

Right click on explorer and open smth like "Downloads" directly.
If it does you have to wipe your Quick Start from explorer settings
>>
>>1541310
correction: "Quick Access" in your case

Install Everything

What do you mean by this?
If I go to the actual location of my download folder under the user directory it still doesn't work.

bro why is everyone on a technology chan actually tech illiterate
>>
>>1541314
I think I've already done what you said weeks ago on my own.
I will post a picture as that seems to be the clearest way to communicate.
I have a suspicion the Dunning–Kruger effect is happening right now.

reinstall windows.
your hkey_classes_root is probably fucked by malware that's breaking explorer.

also /g/ isn't tech support.
>>
>>1541304
Do you have some really long named folders or files there? Those tend to cause problems.
>>
>>1541304
windows defender scanning every file there every time you open that folder in explorer use a 3rd party file manager
>>
>>1541317
Not really and if they were they didnt cause problems before
>>
>>1541318
would that really solve the issue entirely?
>>
>>1541308
Assuming the drive isn’t encrypted, this would be the easiest solution.
>>
>>1541304
have you tried booting windows in safe mode ?
do you use some sort of encryption on your storage ?
could this be related to the update that hit win11 and somehow also doing the same on 10 ?
>>
>i have a big problem with windows
lol
>>
>>1541316
what malware are you speaking of?
My kaspersky antivirus has detected no such thing
>>
>>1541318
I have installed a 3rd party file manager and it seems to work where windows's file manager failed.
What is bad however is that it seems to group files at random no matter what criteria I put.
Firstly, the order of files is fucked up no matter what I do it seems to be random even with grouping them up based on file creation.
Another issue is that it resets itself every time I do something different, which I don't like.
Are there solutions to this?
>>
>>1541306
>doing it in the wrong order
First have to run DISM to update the reference image to run a scan against, dummy
>>
Probably some permissions or database issue or something just nuke and reboot it you can have your PC back running tomorrow or you can still be googling trying to figure out this issue
>>
>>1541324
>my antivirus--
AV is worthless.
if you don't know how explorer shell works, I don't know what to tell you. you fucked your computer up bigly somehow. just fucking reinstall and stop being a bitch. it should be second nature to you.
>>
>>1541328
why are 80% of all suggestions to reinstall whenever windows fucks up somehow?
>>
>>1541329
because windows is a complex beast of legacy retardation features that's hard to fully unwind, unlike say, rebuilding /usr/lib on Linux if you accidentally rm -rf'd it.
>>
>>1541330
I see. It truly is stupid, isn't it?

get one of those usb external ssd drive things and hook it in, they are amazing.

>>1541319
if you have a file thats at the maximum file name size, then move it into a folder with a longer directory name, you will fuck things up because you are now over the character limit for the file name.
>>
>>1541333
sometimes the folder fully loads while using windows's file explorer system.
However the temporary fix until I can reinstall windows is to use a 3rd party file explorer like onecommander
>>
>>1541304
On Windows 7, sorting Downloads is faster than it does on Windows 10, but both take an excruciatingly long time to sort regardless.
This isn't a problem explicitly unique to modern WinDOS, it's just explorer sucking BALLS .

Just installed Total Commander, I don't know how to fucking use it but atleast it sorts things INSTANTLY. Try that out instead anon
>>
>>1541331
I personally don't understand it. deep in there, there are good bones in Windows, but it just seems so pointlessly complex for literally zero benefit to anyone sane. You can say all these meme enterprise words or drum up about MUH SECURITY but it's all bullshit. the plain simplicity of Linux just makes Windows look retarded from any sane metric. really all Windows has over Linux is software at the end of the day, and that's because freechads don't want corps to just shit out some garbage and then abandon it for "economic reasons" and expect it to keep working.
>>
>>1541304
open file explorer options click view tab and click reset folders then click restore defaults

Install another file manager

OP don't fucking reinstall windows over this, I had the same issue and I solved it without doing that. Problem is I can't remember what solved it. Good news is that you don't have malware, it's just windows being windows. I will call on the machine spirits in the astral realm to remind me what I did to fix it, just don't fuck with it in the meantime.
>>

a) try using cmd or powershell (admin mode) to navigate, view and exfiltrate your files
b) I sometimes end up with these folders/files that both cmd and explorer refuse to work with. In these cases I use wiztree as a file explorer. Wiztree interacts with the master file table thingy directly or smth

never seen explorer misbehave though, can't help you on that. Maybe install an alternative to File Explorer and use that in the mean time.
