What are the best mystery/ investigation/ detective games?

Objectively the first Phoenix Wright game.

For more modern stuff, I guess The Case of the Golden Idol. I don’t like the sequel.

Famicom Detective Club games aren’t good imo. No actual detective-ing. It’s a borderline kinetic novel.

What have you played?

Heavily depends on what you're looking for in a detective game. When I hear detective game, my gut reaction is to say Disco Elysium, though it probably isn't that good as a detective game purely.
