What are the best options for sokeone who wants to get into anime for the first time as an adult (20s) in current year?
>>1547568It depends if you want to explore all sorts of genres or only the "best/mature stuff", there's some dumb, comedy, slice of life or violent anime that only hits and hooks you if you're new to the medium, once you watch the best stuff then it could be hard to appreciate stuff like elfen lied, claymore, k-on!, haruhi, nichibros, Almost everyone starts with these 3: Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo. They are short, with lots of action scenes and easy to follow with high quality direction/animation.After those a lot of people watch some of these: FLCL, Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Hunter x Hunter, KonoSuba, Attack on Titan.
Skip the chaff and go straight to the wheatFor starters:>Akira>Perfect Blue>Ninja Scroll>Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust>Jin Roh>Spirited Away>Princess Mononoke>Kiki's Delivery Service>Memories>Robot Carnival>Redline>Ghost in the Shell>Mind Game>PaprikaDon't trust weebs for recommendations. Don't trust weeb websites like MyAnimeList for ratings. Weebs have an incurable brain parasite called having shit taste. You have to keep in mind the OVERWHELMING majority of all anime ever produced is low standards garbage made for children and manchildren. This includes the usual crap like Death Note, Evangelion, FMA, Bleach and Naruto.
>>1547568Don’t. But if you must, just watch movies. Start with Ghibli.
>>1547572The same way someone shouldn't start watching movies with the black and white classics, I believe it's best to not start watching anime by going to the old "classics". Not that they're not good--they absolutely are, but it's better to start where anime is nowadays, with the better visuals, voice acting, and current trends. It'll be good for a start, and also allows you to easily talk about it with other friends who've watched anime. You should *definetely* trust "weeb" recommendations, and work your way backward to the old gems, rather than go straight to the old gems and work your way forward. A lot of people who advise older anime likely grew up with it, and are veteran weebs who've seen a lot of anime. As someone who just started, the goal is just to enjoy yourself, watch a good show and hopefully talk about it with some friends. So, just go down the pop radio of anime and look at the synopsis of recent/popular, like demon slayer, attack on titan, chainsaw man etc.The only thing I would advise against, is long-running anime like one piece or naruto. They take some time truly get started, and if you're not really into anime to begin with, you'll likely give up before anything good happens (and leaving a bitter taste in your mouth). While anon above me wants to advise you the good old black/white classics of movies, I'm advising the opposite: going for what's at the theater right now.
