So I just sat through all of Sword Art Online - the Gun Gale arc and alternative series are obviously based off the movie "Battle Royale".
What about the many-floor dungeon concept, where's it from? Is it also from a movie or is it from a game?
I like it and I also found it in the ongoing manga "Hell Mode", and I suppose one could say it's also fundamental to Made in Abyss (I've even played Mine in Abyss).
Thanks in advance!

Megadungeons existed for roleplaying games since the beginning (e.g. Castle Greyhawk for Dungeons and Dragons, pic related is level 1), so the 1970s.
This inspired computer roleplaying games, say The Tower of Druaga with a 60-level maze-like tower.

Every blobber fits but it probably started with Wizardry.

im pretty sure tower of druaga got adapted into a tv series as well

another example of mega dungeon games would be most roguelikes. Though from what I have seen, they usually dont have giant floors, so much as a shit tons of floors.

Some exceptions exist. Games like DCSS have a lot bigger floors.

By this, i mean they typically focus more on depth rather than width in terms of dungeon construction (but that is a subjective metric so it might seem bigger to others.
