So every now and then after waking my windows pc up from sleep there's a loud grinding sound that doesn't stop. I just restart the pc and that makes it go away and everything is smooth sailing again. Shutting down and manually booting it up also doesn't have any issues. It only happens sporadically after putting it to sleep. windows seems to think my harddrives are fine, so at this point I might just forgo sleep mode all together because I can't really tell what's happening. Tbf sleep mode never worked properly since I got the pc, I'd come by sometimes and it would be back at the lock screen instead of sleeping, but this noise is a new occurrence. Would be interested if anyone has any ideas, but I'm concerned there's a hardware problem, which would suck as the thing's barely 4 years old.
You probably have a bad fan. Bearings give out after a while.Open up your case while it's asleep, then wake it up. You'll probably see one of them spinning slowly or not at all.If you don't see anything but still hear it, then it might be your power supply fan. Typically they're 80mm and can be replaced pretty easily.
