>>1550297my guess is he removed the black, then selected the whole thing and either removed the outline through selecting by color (even if there's some bleed/extra pixels selected the selection is a good enough guide that it becomes trivial to manually trim the outline within the selection area) or he just shrank the selection area by a pixel and then inverted it and deleted the inverted selection
