I think the girls were very young.The girls are doing calligraphy or arts and crafts or some kind of club activity, at home, around a small table. They hold a meeting for some reason to decide something or figure something out, but the "rich and mature" one chairs the meeting.They may also have been drinking tea and sat by an open porch.
