I've been trying to save videos from a 4chan archive but I'm confused. Instead of the file type being mp4 or webm, it says HTLM but the format in parentheses is still in mp4 or webm. Opening the file on VLC does not work and it's just freaking out until i close it
Well, in the properties of the saved files they appear to be of the correct type but they cannot open for some reason
>>1556410>>1556411you're likely saving error pages instead of videos, try clicking on the videos first to see if they will open and play before downloading.if not then the archive probably doesn't keep the original files, which is common
>>1556412the videos do play correctly on the page i save them from. The links are also identical to a 4chan video file you'd open on another tabI don't understand why i cannot read the files when the properties show them as a proper mp4 /webm
>>1556414try opening the file in notepad to see what it is. windows doesn't even check actual file types, it only looks at the extension.
>>1556416it says <!DOCTYPE html> at the start. Looking for mentions of mp4 i have found>/gif\/redirect\/1769530855300838.mp4i suppose i'm just saving something that can only redirect me somewhere? regardless, it was just coomer shit anyway, it's too much effort for what it is now. thank you for your time anon
>>1556417if it actually looks like text and not random data, it's not a video.as a general rule you might want to open the raw file in a new tab and then saving it with Ctrl+S, that way it should always be the actual file
>>1556418>if it actually looks like text and not random data, it's not a video.well 90% is gibberish but i could find some coherent stuff like dimensions and filenames.>and then saving it with Ctrl+Shey, it worked. how come? i'm not literate in computers. thanks anon
>>1556410use chrome. idk why but firefox and edge wont save videos from .moe
