Despite practically living on the internet through various devices I know nothing. Any books, websites, videos, or just general advice?
>>1560117Can you improve your tech literacy? Yes of course, but you'll need to read a lot, and write down and memorize a bunch of stuff. Start visiting /g/, but with a big word filter set up to clear out all the bait and political bullcrap. Check /fwt/, /fglt/, /BUG/, /tpg/, /cyb/+/psg/, /sqt/, /hsg/, /pcbg/ (last three mostly optional but worth a try, I don't go on those much). Explore https://desuarchive.org/g/search/, search up what you want. Read Reddit threads on tech, write a question that you want on a search engine and skim the discussion about that particular topic. The practical basics? Stop using Windows operating systems (if you really have to, then Win7Enterprise is alright alongside Win10 LTSC IoT, Win11 is a no-go), no macOS either. Replace Brave/Opera/Edge/Chrome with LibreWolf (with uBlock Origin with most of the filters turned on to be secure) at the very least. Ditch iPhones, and anything Apple related in general. Do not trust "FAGMAN" (FANGAM, FAANG, Big Tech, et cetera). Don't use social media. Use an Android phone with LineageOS/GrapheneOS, remove all unnecessary applications, debloat the system, clear out Google services. Avoid Google Play, instead use F-Droid or Obtainium and Accrescent. Gmail works, but is a privacy nightmare, can't offer any better free alternatives since most of the others are terrible. When downloading pirated software or video games, look at the checksums or hashes first to see if they're the same as the valid release. Throw every .exe into VirusTotal beforehand. Sandbox programs before using them, but even I don't do this even though I should. Don't reuse passwords, use absurdly long random passwords on everything if possible. Install OpenWrt or something similar on your internet router for safety. Assume you're being tracked at all times unless your computers are offline or heavily firewalled. Learn how to utilize Tor/I2P just in case (Digital ID push). Watch some Luke Smith or Mental Outlaw (as a primer).

There's a lot, I hit the word limit. I could go on and on.
>>1560129>but you'll need toLol, op you don't need to do any of that. Just because the modern internet sucks doesn't mean you need to become a schizoIf you're looking for general knowledge the first stop in current year is wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InternetRead some things, maybe understand. Don't understand, further details are usually linked
>>1560117Start by learning to make digital art on Krita on youtube, then learn how to use blender on youtube, then the skills from those will be very transferrable to making games on Godot, start to learn Godot on youtube and then use chatgpt or gemini to explain scripting for Godot and use chatgpt/gemini to learn all about python scripting, then you'll be pretty tech literate
>>1560117Hmmm but you have still learned the implicit language and logic of user interfaces, right? You can guess what icons mean, can guess shortcuts etc.?If you haven't maybe look into https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Common_User_Access.Could you give an example of when your inadequate tech literacy failed you?
>>1560129I agree with most when it comes to your privacy advice, but using Pass phrases is better, with a pass word manager like KeyPassXC
>>1560117>Despite practically living on the internet through various devices I know nothing. Any books, websites, videos, or just general advice?just be curious, on every action you do using tech and look up how it works.
>>1560117Don't give up! Challenge again!
>>1560129I've no money or job so I can't do just abandon what I have or stop using stuff my family is using. That being said, I can do things like the OpSec. I've been going around trying to delete accounts that I don't use and not connecting accounts through the recovery tab.>>1560130Thanks for taking the time to write out your reply.>>1560134Thanks.>>1560163I actually already have Krita. I'm the type of person that procrastinates so I have a few tutorials saved I haven't watched. >>1560164>Could you give an example of when your inadequate tech literacy failed youWhen I first got my current laptop I tested it out by playing video games instead of just looking at the specs (which even now I don't fully understand, all I know is that they aren't good). I ended up losing sound for my entire laptop and nearly had a mental breakdown because I didn't understand what I was readong--the problem was caused by something with a sound drivers. I fumbled my way to get them to work outside of the game and uninstalled it. I am a former Macbook user so jumping that to modern windows has been rough. I've just been copypasting random code on the microsoft forums to disable auto-updates and copilot. >>1560179I think I'm genuinely special needs now>>1560213Too dumb to know when quit
>>1560129A good portion of this is solid advice and tips, but ditching Windows is the equivalent of using almond milk for every situation you would normally use milk for you, this anon really fucking likes the taste of almonds, but that doesn't mean you should give up milk because this one guy does. Everything else, yeah, go nuts.
Maybe those IT courses would be useful? Perhaps you can find something that is free.

>>1560607I wouldn't even know where to find something like that>>1560610thanks
>>1560134>schizoMeaningless buzzword. I agree, but also disagree. We'll see what the Epstein class does with the internet in the next few years. Nothing wrong with preparing yourself for the worst. If nothing happens? I'm glad.>>1560178Perhaps.>>1560249No need to do everything that I mentioned. But yeah, no problem!>>1560272I'm generally anti-Windows since the release of 8, but you can still use Windows, sure. Not using any Windows operating system after 10 LTSC IoT though, I'm done.
