drive cloning taking abnormally long amount of time

I have a 4tb external ssd that I use to backup my whole system. I have to partitions on it each 2TB large since my main PC has two 2TB drives on it (C and D)

When I clone my C drive to the first partition, it takes only 1 hour but when I want to clone the D drive to the second partition, it takes at least 12-18 hours even via usb 3.0

My C and D drive have roughly the same amount of used storage so it can't be a size issue. What is going on?

What program are you using to clone it? I'm not familiar enough with drive cloning, but I know GUI applications can take a stupidly long time when copying large amounts of data. Try a command line program maybe.
