So 7 or so months ago some guy stole my meta quest 3 and I had given up hope in finding who until I checked my meta account to find new pictures had been taken on my meta account. Please help me find who or where this is. I provided the picture below. Thank you.

the person taking the pictures is very likely not the person who stole your equipment. whoever stole your equipment probably sold it for cash to a pawn shop or something who then sold it on to someone who wanted to use it. they probably don't even know they're using stolen hardware, this is what happens like 99% of the time. thieves don't usually steal shit to use themselves, they just want cash fast.

you can and should report it to the police if you haven't, they won't do anything but at least there'd be a record on file and it's possible that whoever stole it gets busted for something else down the line and they can identify them for you so you can sue them for damages. small claims court is set up for stuff like this and doesn't require lawyers and is designed to be comprehensible to regular people.

if you really want to go down the rabbit hole (i wouldn't, you're potentially opening yourself up to legal liability if you don't follow the proper process), what you want to do is look for shit in the pictures that can narrow down where they're taken. with enough pictures you'll be able to find stuff if you're clever.

i would not say it's worth it, though. it's time-consuming, difficult, you're unlikely to prevail, and there's a nonzero chance you do something illegal that YOU'LL get in trouble for (read: fines or jail time).

it's a better use of your time to write it off as a loss beyond just reporting it to the police (and again don't expect much doing so). maybe eventually report it to meta too if you don't want their shit showing up on your account anymore. your time is a valuable resource, i think it's probably better for you to use it on other stuff, but it's your life.
