Soak in olive oil or dish soap, place cloth on thumb, rotate center kob with teeth to the left to loosen, then bottom should be free enough to rotate. The center thing is like a nut forcing the ttop half against the threads.so you can't rotate top until center is loose and since tip half is already cracked you don't want to further stress top by rotating it, the top can be repaired with same type of metal solder
