Are there any nu-shounen manga as good as Fullmetal Alchemist, Rurouni Kenshin or Shaman King Kanzenbang if I care more about character writing and storytelling rather than fights and power systems?

Not only you will be missing the point of manga as a whole, but the entire adventure and battle shonen genre too. So i would advice you instead to read books like count of montecristo, moby dick, lord of the rings
