My soon-to-be wife is going to move in with me.

She is a turbo buyfag and not very tech-savvy (I'm quite behind the times, too), so I wanted to create the most plug-and-play possible setup in my living room that allows for maximum platform variety and pirated content.

What are my options?
An emulation + PC-gaming-dedicated computer and then individual consoles for newer stuff?
Should I get a hassle-free OS for that purpose, or some generic Windows installation is still better? Linux with VM? Can that be made stupid easy to start and then play?

I've seen some cool retro mobile all-in-one handhelds, I would appreciate having that on desktop as well.

More specifically, my platforms of interest would be N64, Gamecube, (3)DS, PS1-3 and Vita.
Plus PC stuff. Never bothered to make it convenient because I'm fine navigating 30 different types of emulators, but those times might be over.

Buy a PC, install RetroArch, some Switch emulator and Steam
>individual consoles for newer stuff?
Why? Steam has all the new games that matter. PS5 has no games, Switch 2 has barely anything

I'd just use a Windows based PC (optimally your main one if you can manage) and use it as your primary emulator machine.

Pic related is my desktop and it covers Genesis, Nintendo, SNES, N64, Playstation, PS2, Gamecube, Dolphin (controls are funky I think because of the nature of the console and it's weird control style) and Nintendo DS.

I could add more, but those are the ones I stick to.

I think what I'll pass onto you is what I recently learned while getting back into emulation the last couple months.

-Duckstation is the current best PS1 emulator so forget about ePSXe. It has the same interface ad PCSX2.

-those modern emulators can be made portable by creating a file in it's main directory

I'll start with that man, you can probably tell that I have my system very finely tuned and putting it all on here would take too long.

I'd isolate the shortcuts and treat that as the emulation corner of your os.

Pj64 is the best N64 emulator and there is a version 4.0 out so you don't need to focus on 3.0 version.

Took me a while to catch up to this shit. Nestopia has a Undead Edition since the original has been abandonded.

what controller(s)/joystick(s) do you use when you emulate? or do you just use the mouse and keyboard?
>>
>>1565065
Nah, I have an actual Sony PS2 controller connected by a blue USB adapter I got form Amazon a while back. Works perfectly and prefer this controller to anything even newer ones.

I have an actual n64 controller that I used to use specifically for n64 emulation with a similar usb adapter, but I got tired of changing them out so I got used to using the PS2 controller for N64 emulation also.

I don't use Mouse and keyboard but I guess someone could if they wanted.

I will add the PS4 controller is convenient for DS emulation because you can use the touchpad on it to simulate touching the screen if I remember correctly.

Huh, how would a Mouse and Keyboard setup work in this case, small table in front of the massive TV and neck pain guaranteed?
Put a tiny desk in front of the TV while you play M+KB games?
In that case, it should probably be wireless, but then the latency...

Well, as far as configuring go, I think it's pretty easy and straightforward. Just map the keyboard buttons to whatever actions you want them to do just like joysticks.

As far as how it's actually set up, I don't know. Anybody can set some kind of station up however they want to do it.

I currently use do everything at my desk from my chair looking forward while I have a 55 inch tv to my right at an angle and I can easily keep track of both but I mainly use my pc for everything.

I did run an hdmi cable to the tv so I can extend my pc and I used to play movies a lot like that and was considering just running the emulator to the tv to game on that.

Thing is I'm too lazy to switch screens and I can't do anything to long and am always bouncing back and forth between things.

If I was go mouse/keyboard on a tv, I guess I'd consider a standing desk or at least one that raises and stand while I game or try finding a somewhat high chair combined with tv on a low tv set to kind of have them meet up so I'm looking comfortably directly ahead with a table and wireless keyboard/mouse.

Everyone has their own style though.

Get a dedicated machine for your gaming, and put a couch so that you can be immersed into it instead of distracted by the infinite opportunities your desktop brings you.
>>

Well, that wouldn't work for me. I'm mainly a pc person and the gaming is second. If I did game that much, I'd just get a console or yeah set my pc up for a much more comfortable gaming setup, but I don't need that.

I'm not op also, in case it wasn't obvious.
