I was there but young. I don't remember it well. I know for sure it was ironic, but was it also sincere? Even on the same website? I'm assuming many people were open about themselves but it got punished if it wasn't in the right circle.
yes people on forums and shit were usually completely sincere and one-dimensional in their intentions outside of places like something awful and totse which were more caustic but even on 4chan before 2016 people weren't all derealized schizos on 12 layers of irony like people actually spake their opinions at one point before 4chan spilled out of containment in 2016 and post-irony broke everyone and then during covid ppl just lost their minds.
