I have a 2tb ssd with windows on it and a 1 tb ssd that is empty.
I am only using 800 gb on the 2 tb ssd with windows, and I want to move it to the 1 tb ssd, so the 2 tb ssd can be freed up to install linux

Your incentive to help me is that you get to convert a microslop user over to the world of linux.

Unfortunately, I cannot just reinstall windows as I have certain proprietary apps for who's installers I no longer possess or can gain access to, so I need to do an actual transfer, image restore, etc.

I tried to shrink the partition so I could use clonezilla, but I tried quite literally everything I could think of (whether it be fully defragging the ssd to removing the pagefile) and it doesn't let me shrink it past 70 gb, even after removing heaps and heaps of files.

Help would be greatly appreciated. All software I've tried either turned out to be paid or (for GParted disk image) doesn't work because X.org was failing to launch for some reason.

Not all files have the same sizes. Shocking news, I know, but like a single video could be 1GB or more! While 10,000 pictures may be less than that.

be careful with drive cloning sometimes it will clone the drive serial too and then make it so you can't use both drives at the same time because they have the same serial

>fully defragging
You don't want to defrag, you want to move files to the front of the drive, that's often the opposite of defragging. MyDefrag can do this.

But of course most tools can't move unmovable files like restore points and shadow copies, for that you can try MiniTool Partition Wizard. The free version won't allow you to clone a system drive but you can move unmovable files and resize partitions..

You do realise you're on a ticking time bomb right? At some stage something is going to fail and that's all gone. Especially as it sounds like you have exactly zero backups and no history of ever being inclined to make backups or you'd have those installers.

Kek, why are you like this

You could use wiztree or windirstat to identify large files/folders. Guess it won't help if the big files are program files or system files that you can't move.
