Dont force the breathe, but breathe in right from the stomach/abdomen. Full breaths. Again, keep the diaphragm relaxed while doing this. When you hold the in breath, contract the perineum muscles. Hold the breath gently, do not overdo the holds. With each in breath and exhale, visualize that the fire grows bigger and bigger, until it reaches the top of the head (it does not leave the body!) Imagine that the fire is pure hot bliss. Every time you breath, it makes it burn brighter and stronger. The fire must be red. At that point the meditation object is dual; The breath work (in, hold, out) & the fire in central tube. When you visualize/imagine, do not try to picture every detail. Dont try to picture it. Instead, feel that it is there, treating it similarly to how we remember things.

Tantra illuminated by Christopher is a bad starting point for you in particular. Theres a different book by a fat guy i want to recommend you, but i cant remember his name for the life of me. Given that, go read tantra illuminated. Ignore his ideas on religious history. When done, pick up copies of the tantraloka. You will do your best if you do this AFTER kundalini. Not before. Maintain a consistent meditation every day for atleast a month, 15 minutes minimum. Hour is best. Avoid killing, lying, harsh speech, stealing, gossip, alcohol and try not to jerk off. If you can make it to a week, the energy will start to transmute. Once you have distinct kundalini phenomenon rising, go read books on Kashmir shaivism, starting with the two I recommend. I dont know if youll stay in hindu tradition, but this entry into ecstatic religiosity will be good for you i think.

So was meditating last night laying down, focusing on third eye. I began to feel an intense blanket/cocoon of energy around my body and I started to heat up; especially my face. I maintained this for a bit then broke because of the heat. What was this? It was intense but pleasant aside from the heat.

I'm not really sure what the point of my post is. Do you think this is something worth pursuing? I've seen what kundalini psychosis and symptoms can look like, so I've erred on the side of "well why would I need that kind of energy anyway". That said back when I used to do a bit more spiritual practice I had much stronger synchronicity as well as dream visitations and siddhi-esque things, but mild compared to what you describe. I suppose that was the most interesting portion of my life and I am in a spiral of stagnation currently.
