>>41012421I originally saw it through a Christian worldview, certainly Donnie is an archetypal Crucified Man but now I wonder if his death is not so much a sacrifice for the good of mankind alone, but rather a ritual Ego-death like Christian Rosenkreutz in the Vault, to be reborn into a higher order of things, union with the One, the "so much to look forward to". Both of his teachers were time travelers, just watch all his interactions with them. Donnie knew that in the end, yes he decided to kill himself to save the girl, but, by doing that the we cannot know if the time would just reset or this new timeline the cult would ended up still existing, it's a groundhog day kinda movie
