It seems that burning things in sacrifice in exchange for forgiveness and blessings is something that humanity no longer has the stomach to do (for the most part). It was common practice to sacrifice livestock, grain, fruits, and even birds. Nowadays, it appears that humanity has convinced itself that burning incense or maybe spilling a few drops of a drink are enough. Perhaps our ways aren't meaningful enough anymore?
