i enjoy Dr Jack. he can upset dummies with his habit of calling out idiots. he tells the story of Semmelweis a Dr who noticed babies and mothers were dying at high rates when doctors delivered the baby instead of midwives. he was able to figure out it was because the doctors would dissect dead bodies and then go right to delivery rooms without gloves or washing hands. Semmelweis started enforcing chemicals and washing hands and decreased the mortality rate but he also called the doctors out. the other doctors said corpse particles causing death was stupid superstition and Semmelweis became a target, they told him they needed him to work in a mental hospital for a shift and he figured out they were trying to commit him. They beat the shit out of him, tied him in a straight jacket and he was dead in a few weeks from blood poisoning. Sometimes brilliant people will be correct but the dummies aren’t able to handle the why. Years later pasteur’s work would help these doctors understand that they were to blame. After Semmelweis’ death, and a new head doctor was in charge, the mortality rate increased 6 foldEven Wikipedia and modern medicine act like Semmelweis was wrong because it wasn’t the doctors fault for not washing hands, it was the germs fault
