>in the year 1525 after Whitsunday between Wednesday and Thursday at night during my sleep I have seen this view where large waters fell from the sky And the first large water impacted the earth about 4 miles removed from myself with such violence and with a great tremendous murmuring noise and spattering and flooding the entire land In the course of this I was filled by such severe fright that it caused me to wake up whilst the other waters fell down.>and the waters that were falling there were very big and many of them fell down at some distance and many also near-by and they came from such a great height that they appeared to the mind to slowly fall. But when the first water which hit the earth came then violent winds and noise came along with it and I was very frightened and started by it and my whole body trembled and for long I did not come to my senses But when I arose in the morning I painted the above as I had seen it. >may God change all things to the best.>Dürer, June 1525
