It’s the eye of Ra. There seems to be a parallel between the symbol and a part of the brain. I don’t know if it has an occult meaning.

It was mainly associated with Ra, but it was also associated with various other deities like Bastet and Sekhmet. A lot of people think it represents the pineal gland because it happens to look similar, but I've yet to see any compelling evidence that ancient Egyptians actually believed that. I'm pretty sure the whole pineal thing is just a modern invention.
