You may have a point with collecting wild edible roots in bulk for protein and starch, I don't know my plants well enough.

Point is, there is no reasonable food out there, and even if there is the foraging, the government will be getting pissy with anyone that wants to check out and live out there permanently.

This leaves the economic and social clusterfuck that is distributing farmed food and shelters to a bunch of people especially when a few ultra greedy people siphon all the wealth off and rattle the cage of all the poor people force to live with each other.

This assumes that
1 I'm in a well enough position in life where I can visit and enjoy nature without it posing any real danger
2, even if there's no direct threat, it assumes my responsibilities in life aren't keeping me busy in a city with commute, and my responsibilities are of such nature that I can postpone attending to them until I have had my hike
3 It assumes that the nature itself is not destroyed and degraded so it leaves a sour taste, even if I do fulfill 1 and 2 (80% of the world population of humans already failed here)
4 it assumes that I have the physical and mental disposition to sit and observe nature, that means filled belly, roof over head, kids taken care of, no ill parents/spouse, etc etc
5 even if all those conditions are fulfilled, it assumes I'm even human at all
6 if 5, it assumes I'm whole, healthy and able, and most importantly, not enslaved (99% of us failed here)

These are all off the top of my head, but there's a lot of assumptions and a lot of criteria to fulfill in order to even have the chance to enjoy one view of nature. 99% chance most of us, humans, can't fill 5 out of these 6 simple basic normal common criteria. Just because some boomers or influencers go in vacations and take pictures of nature, they still usually fail at point 3, there's a whole thing about it. And remember that those extravagant hikes and vacations for 2 usually come at the expense of many. Just for 2 boomers to get their vacation, their kids and grandkids will have to pay Blackrock 3500$ a month.

I will try to explain my point of view from a Gnostic perspective.
Let's say the Demiurge is the universe, and the divine spark was the first single-celled organism that arose from nothing.
The spark strives to escape the realm of the Demiurge in order to return home to God. Perhaps in the future, humans will leave in a spaceship, or they will break the code of the Matrix or whatever, and they will carry this very spark within them.

It's not cruel, it's just life, and you're not just a part of it, you are that life. Just like the creatures that were allowed to live for millions of years just so there would be enough oxygen in the atmosphere for more complex animals to evolve. they were not aware of their significance either; that will only become apparent in the future.
