Why was there so much gnostic themed media in the late 90s and early 2000s?

>the x files
>dark city
>the matrix
>the truman show
>donnie darko
>evangelion
>serial experiments lain
>final fantasy vii
>deus ex

I could go on but I think you get the point. The trend seems to have sprang up out of nowhere for no obvious cultural reason and then disappeared after 9/11. Why is that?

philip k dick, arguably the gnostic successor to carl jung in a purely cultural sense, talks about his rights getting picked up for bladerunner shortly before he died. cyberpunk 2020 in 90, then you had akira in 91. the wachowski bros were massive anime fans. johnny mnemonic. it flowered from 80s punk culture and the burgeoning technologisation on the horizon. that's what stirred all of this virtual reality idealisation. it was a perfect cultural stew. you had to be there. no one ever talks about it, but keanu reeves seems to pick mostly futurist and cyberpunk movies.

oh yeah, i forgot, neuromancer. that seeded the 'virtual reality simulation' trope pretty hard in this burgeoning genre with its conception of cyberspace. matrix picked it up wholesale and gibson didnt mind. neuromancer invented the concept of the 'matrix' in the first place. still looking for a good quality copy of the comic.

Even regular LAN cables are called 'ethernet' cables. It was seeded throughout the technologisation sphere. It's no accident the first google tablet was called the nexus 7. what do you think tech nerds are into?

The reason it disappeared is because those kinds of ideas can lead one to the truth
And the powers that be don't want you to know the truth, because it would take away their power over you
The whole purpose of 9/11 was to lock everyone down, restrict them and spy on them

How was FF7 related? I loved the game but why?

>and then disappeared after 9/11
interesting point, I never realized this as well, I still wonder if the Xfiles started as a sort soft disclosure
oh lets not forget Stargate, I'm still watching it

The graphic novel was never finished, but it's good. There is a HD version floating around uploaded by a redditor but it's all in spanish...

Here is a low definition copy on a nostalgic 90s website for you. takes me back. wish we could go back to snazzy personal sites instead of bland social media. at least myspace let you put gaudy backgrounds and mp3s.

Guessing the lifestream. People don't actually die, they return to the light where they're all one.

There's quite a lot of Gnost movies outside the 90's too.
>The Wizard of Oz
>Smallfoot
>Wish
>Wall-e
>The LEGO Movie
>Free Guy
>Wreck it Ralph
>UglyDolls
>The Little Mermaid (just a bit)
Notice how a majority of this list is Disney
