I think that this works to some extent in real life.I found that before going to sleep, I could clear my mind, offer a prayer or an invitation to something, or even just repeated "show me something", then get results in my dream. If I said "show me anything" the results were usually terrible. I mean literally terrible, they provoked terror. I was getting bad sleep because of this so I stopped using the technique for a while. Might try again while being more specific.
