So, in my alternate timeline my body is literally encased inside of the pod even right "now", but my consciousness awoke in my younger body and with some of my memories intact. During the setup process for the journey, I actually worked the a kind of "timeline specialist" to help sculpt what I would see and do and at when. Another method, which some may not consider "valid" involved using the super advanced AI simulations to re-create historical periods. These simulated worlds are so advanced and realistic they are functionally micro-universes and need to be treated as such. I've made allusions to the pitfalls of that technology in the past, specifically, that some characters by their very "nature" are self-aware and the AI gets confused when portraying them.
